XREF AND XCLIPING PROBLEM, OBJECTS DISAPPEARING

At work we have been having this strange issue with xrefs. We use xref a lot as we share our maps (drawings) to be used with various other drawings. Sometimes we will notice that objects on a certain layer will not display on the xref, even though that layer shows up on the layer properties manager and is turned on and thawed.  The problem only occurs when the xref has been clipped (if you remove the clipped boundary the objects magically reappear, but they then will disappear again when xclipping.)  If you move those objects to an existing layer, save and reload the appear, but if you move them back to the original layer they will again disappear.  After some experimentation we then then noticed that if you create a new layer, draw some objects on that layer, save then reload that xref, then in the other drawing that the objects on the new layer do not show up (but do show up in layer manager), and the other layer that was previously missing now appears.  Delete that new layer and purge it out, save and reload the xref and we are back to square one as the original problem then occurs.  My best guess is that the last created layer is the one that does not show up?  I have tried to replicated this problem on a smaller, simpler drawing but of coarce every thing works fine.  Has anyone else come accross this?

Hi, did you managed to fix this problem? and if so, how?

I am having the same exact situation and I am creating a new layer every time, in order to have the last layer to appear on the xclipped xrefs. I am on ACAD 2017. If you could share your solution, it'd be greatly appreciated. Thank you.!

No your solution is the only way around it as far as we can figure out.  Obviously a bug in autcad, and we have had this issue with various versions on Autocad Map (2014 through 2017).  Weird thing it only happens on certain drawings.  But once the bug is there, is seems to stick.  One thing that may fix it (and I stress MAY), is to query everything out of the one drawing into a new drawing, and re-save it.  This has worked at least once for us, but I would keep a close eye on it still.

I managed solving the problem just selecting one line that was drawn with different elevations and change to Z = 0. Then, all the lines and elements were shown in the Xref. Hope this helps.

I've run into this a couple times. Today, wasn't able to try the other suggestions because someone had the referenced drawing open and I didn't feel like talking to him. Tried different clip boundaries with no change UNTIL I used the Invert option within xclip.

Hi  we have had the same problem.

Our solution was to open the original drawing that is x reffed (if that's a word) while we used the x clip command.

This  fixed it every time.

Open the xref and set XLOADCTL in it to 0. Reopen the host drawing and re-create the clipping boundary (xclip).

i discovered my problem exists in the Spatial Index of the referenced file. the clipped reference "disappears" when INDEXCTL = 3 or 2 (in the referenced file), but reappears with INDEXCTL = 1 or 0. need to experiment with clipping depth to see if that has an effect.....
