I am trying to use insert field command to display Lat and Long. I am using ILLIMAP from the CS Library. I changes the Datum to WGS84. It is still giving me Northing and eastling coordinates.

Hi @bbasan675XZ,
Welcome to the Autodesk Forums.
"...insert field command..."
Details please on what command you're using.
You don't need to create a custom coordinate system to use data in ILLIMAP coordinate system. Map 3D will very easily transform. What type of data do you have, AutoCAD objects or shapefile data?

I am going into insert field-Objects-Position_Decimal. I select the point first. I also tried systemvariable-Latatude-Decimal. I am trying to put points along a line and have the Lat and Long displayed.

@bbasan675XZ,
I'm not sure you can use an AutoCAD field to label Lats and Longs. I might be wrong. Vanilla AutoCAD and Map 3D are usually not on speaking terms.
Suggest a new workflow. After placing points along the line, use MAPEXPORT to create a point shapefile. Drag-n-Drop it back into your drawing and you can use a Feature Label Style to label with Lats and Longs.

Hello @bbasan675XZ

Here's a workflow that works if you have a few points. It's easy to enter a few points one-by-one. However, if you have 74 points, you'll need a more efficient way to insert them.

<<For a long list of Lat/Long points, you can enter them in Map3D using an Excel spreadsheet. Entering Lat/Longs from a properly formatted spreadsheet is not covered in this post. If you want that procedure, please start a new post and a separate set of instructions will be provided.>>

To begin open a clean, brand new imperial template (not metric) and assign one of these coordinate systems: IL83-EF or IL83-WF. Which one you choose will depend on the County where your site is located. <<This exercise uses IL83-EF (EPSG 3435). Assign the appropriate coordinate system before beginning the steps shown below.>>

  1. Go Geolocation Tab=>Tools Panel=>Mark Position Dropdown=>Lat-Long Icon.
  2. On command line type in 41.891863=>ENTER for Latitude. On command line type in -87.605102 for Longitude=>ENTER
  3. At your cursor which is now flashing in modelspace, type in 'MyPoint' (or another ID label) then left-click a BLANK area in modelspace to insert your geomarker and end the GEOMARKLATLONG command.
  4. Select the geomarker you just created=>Go to Properties Palette=>Change size to 200 (you can increase/decrease size later). This geomarker's Lat and Long will be displayed at the bottom of the Properties Palette. The x/y values are referenced to Illinois State Plane coordinates, NAD83, East Zone, Feet (EPSG 3435) and will also be displayed in the Prop Palette under the Geometry Section. (The position-x and position-y value always adopts or inherits the units of the assigned coordinate system.)
  5. OPTIONAL: If you want higher precision in your Lat/Long coordinates, then enter UNITS on command line=>Change precision to 6-decimal places.

Step-1Step-1

Step-2Step-2

Step-3Step-3

Step-4Step-4

Step-5Step-5

Finally, you can turn on Bing Hybrid for an aerial photo background. If you have performed this exercise using IL83-EF coordinate system and entered the same Lat/Long shown above, then your geomarker will be positioned at Navy Pier.
