Connecting to Oracle

Hi All,

I have a question related to connecting to an Oracle DB. I am trying to connect to an Oracle DB and I am receiving the following error (see image). I have rebooted my machine, and tried logging in through the Oracle web interface with same username/password and I have no problems there. I am trying this through Civil 3D; I don’t know if that matters (also, I have a 64-bit laptop). I installed just Map 3D (64-bit) and get the same problem.

Any help is appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

Oracle XE needs to be fine tuned and add a user in oracle with the proper
roles.

Murph,

First, thanks a bunch for getting back to me (I love your blog too :-). Ok, so I am NOT an Oracle/SQL kinda guy, however, I am fairly technically savvy :-). So, I added the user F_USER_ROLE, but how do I add the SQL file, or do whatever else I need to do to get this to work? Also, do I eventually have to use the F_USER_ROLE as a service AND a user login when connecting?

Thanks again Murph, I really appreciate it.

Did you use the FdoUsersManager.exe to create the role? Located in the
FDO/Bin folder for Map3D/C3D...
You may want to look over these threads.

#7 and #4 might be of some help with the xe version of Oracle. All I used
was the full 10 G versions, that worked right out of the box.
Also there should be some document in the install/setup folders on the DVD.
It's been a while since I played with Oracle.
