'' any object available for polygon topology creation ''

Hello,

so I am trying to create a Polygon Topology, cleaned the map of course but the following constantly appears and no topology is created :

'' any object is available for polygon topology creation ''

I searched everywhere what is considered an object in this context and didn't found anything and still don't understand my errors.

appreciate your help !

Hi,

what objects do you have in your drawing?
Select them and look in the property window what type of objects they are.

If you have any application specific objects (at least all "none-AutoCAD geometry objects") then this might be the reason.

You can also upload your drawing, so we can look into it.

In fact I did attached Access Data, and I also believe it comes from these new properties.

They are attached to closed polylines as pavement' materials so of course in the border between epdm and grass exist duplicated polylines. But that doesnt allow a topology creation right ?

So the plan gets cleaned up but it still doesn't allow. My suspicion is after this last command they aren't also considered objects anymore...

Hi,

after you finished MAPCLEAN (with the result 0 0 0), select one of the objects that you try to use for creation of the topology, look to the property window (if not active then press <CTRL><1> to get it activated) and let us know what object type is listed there.

Hi,

if you have attached a database or not does not make any difference for creating a new topology.

The only handycap might be that in case you have attached database-links to the polylines that these links will not work after you have cleaned the geometry using MAPCLEAN command.

So let's go step by step:

  • When you started MAPCLEAN you have assigned the cleaning options that are necessary to build a polygonal topology (so double geometry as well as crossing geometry is not allowed) ... and you did run MAPCLEAN as often as there were errors reported in the command line?
  • You started then MAPTOPOCREATE, selected "polygonal" and either you have existing centroid objects like point/block/text or you let create the topology creation process create the centroids ... either you get reported that the topology was created or you get an info about why not (including markers at positions where conflicts exist) ... if you came so far and the topology is not created please make a screenshot (showing the last messages) and upload this so we can see the exact message.

Good luck, - alfred -

Hi,

can you share the drawing?

I'm surprised about your screenshot and what you like to create a topology from (you have hatches, banks, a lot of circles/or blocks ... these objects are not very typical for creating a polygonal topology).

I think these Topology creation is not exactly adequated to this situation because this is +-  a technical plan of an area , and autocad map, arcgis concern more extended areas ..

But the teacher made it so thats duable.

What if I freeze some layers in order to create a topology of only a few polygons and so on ?

Hi,

>> What if I freeze some layers in order to create a topology

You can only freeze the objects that should not be part of the topology.

>> i am trying to attach but not working sorry

Are you working through mail answering or directly here in the web-interface of the forum?

How large is your file, there is a limit about 2MB I think, you can try to erase the objects within a copy of your drawing (erase the objects that should not be part of a topology), then run _PURGE, that would reduce the filesize too.

Hi,

sorry about my words, but I guess there are more than one issue with the workflow or the definition of the job that has to be done.

@ALL:

As I have to make now the wording more sensible please don't mind that I continue in German language. It's easier then to find the wording. If anyone likes to have a translation to get involved into discussion please let me know that!

Hello ,

well, As I said before it is a simplified technical Plan of a Sport Clinic ! And the idea is to create a Polygon Topology of each ground surfaces ( EPDM, beton, pavement ) and through Topology Query name the centroids with their Access Properties ( surfaces' names ... ).

So I must run MAPCLEAN several times before trying again?

thanks

Hi,

>> the idea is to create a Polygon Topology of each ground surfaces ( EPDM, beton, pavement )

Then first freeze all layers the do not belong to the topology.

>> So I must run MAPCLEAN several times before trying again?

Of course, you have to restart it as often as you see there are corrections done.

Hi again,

I followed all your advices given ( MAPCLEAN until 0 errors found, freeze all undesired layers ) and now it has this following error,

what is a link ?

thanks for answering , hopefully for the last time !

Hi,

the message "link does not belong to a polygon" shows that the creation of the topology is stopped because of geometry objects exist, that can't be used as border for polygons. That image shows such a situation:

2015-03-06 22-36-23.png

the line to which the red arrow points, is here, but can't be used as it does not built a closed area.

And that's what this message tells you.

Now you have 2 choices:

  • the clean workflow is to look at the markers you get shown at the end of the topology building process (markers you get when it fails) and do manual corrections
  • the other option is to ignore these geometry objects (can be unchecked at the last page of the topology creation dialog.
