Trouble importing toolpalettes

Hi guys,

I've run into some trouble regarding toolpalettes.

I have received an exported toolpalette file (.XTP) from a customer. The file is currently on a folder on my desktop.

Next, I import the .XTP file using the Customize command and right-clicking in the Palettes area.

I drag the palette to whichever group I want it to be in and the toolpalette shows up and I am able to use the blocks that are in the palette (after ensuring the directory the blocks refer to is correct).

I then save and close my drawing and AutoCAD and open it up again, the toolpalette is gone.

I am completely lost and I have tried searching and following certain steps, but I can't get it fixed unfortunately.

I am using AutoCAD LT 2025.

Thanks in advance!

Hello, and welcome to the forum!

I'd just like to verify (it sounds like this is what you described) that you followed these same steps as detailed HERE?

Hi Chris,

From your linked webpage, I have done the below steps as I received the .XTP file.

  • On the target system (or on the target program), enter the CUSTOMIZE command.
  • Right-click on any palette name and choose Import.
  • Browse to the .xtp file and click Open.
  • Click Close.

The TP shows up while I keep the AutoCAD program running. The moment I close AutoCAD and re-open it, the imported TP is gone.

I also just tried to create a new TP and copy the blocks from the imported TP into this empty new TP. After closing and reopening AutoCAD, the new and imported TP's are both gone.

is your Windows log-in a limited user type? Or is your login a full admin type?

Are you actively saving your workspace after import?
Are you sure your Toolpalettes locations listed in OPTIONS command's FILES tab are updating? Do you have full read-write-delete-modify access to that folder with your Windows login by chance?

Your LT2025 is not updating, you need to do more to find out why. Here is a similar post with some good tips worth exploring:

If you suspect it is an LT2025 flaw... test by installing and using LT2024, then open a support case with Autodesk if you are on subscription to seek out Autodesk Support's help:
