Is there an easy way to do this, tabbing doesn't do it. I've always had trouble selecting a line buried under anothe one.

There is another option if you're using LT 2011 or 2012: Selection Cycling.
Set the system variable SELECTIONCYCLING=2 to turn it on or activate it by clicking its icon on the Status bar at the bottom of the screen. When you move your cursor over an object that has others beneath it you'll see two small boxes. Select the object and a Selection box will come onscreen showing you what else is there. Move your cursor over them and left click to select the one you want.
Having selection cycling on all the time can slow down performance... so I leave it off most of the time.

My cursor does not give me the double box option when placed on line where duplicate lines are drawn. Where can this be set?
Select both (Cross-Selection) and remove the upper object.
Crosswindow-selection
type-in R or REMOVE [or just press SHIFT while] click the upper object,
voila.

You can also turn on SELECTIONCYCLING. When you click on a spot that has more than one thing, it gives you a pop up that shows each object and the color of the layer each is on. You then click on which one you want. The top object in the list is the object on top in the drawing and they go down from there corresponding. If you don't click on anything in the pop up and just continue what you are doing it automatically selects the top object the same as it would with selectioncycling turned off. You can add a button to turn this off and on to the bottom toolbar. That way you can turn it on if you have a really cluttered drawing with lots of overlap.
