Hey everyone, I'm looking to modify a linetype that that was imported from another file I received from another company. I have learned how to make linetypes in the past and I know where the acad.lin file is, but when I look at the file for a linetype I know exists in my drawings, I cannot find the one I want to modify. I don't want to start from scratch making a line, when I could copy/paste an existing line description and change one small thing for the line I want. I'd like to keep everything else about the existing line because they represent a similar thing with a slight change.
From a sample drawing that was sent to me, I copy/pasted a new linetype from the supplied file to my template file, so now I have that linetype with every new drawing, but have no idea where ACAD stores that info if I can't find it in that acadlt.lin file.

Have you put a hard return at the end of the .lin file?

this is how it looks like when I use both 24F and modified 144F but I'm running acad and not LT
try opening attached dwg in LT and see if you're able to use the 2 attached linetype definitions to create the same in LT. Also may be a better idea to keep these and any custom linetypes separate from the default acadlt.lin location since you may lose this when you upgrade to the next version.
No, I don't think i did a "hard" return at the end. But with the new command _LINETYPE in LT version 2024, I feel like that shouldn't matter, and I would think with a built in command, it would take care of placing it correctly in the .lin file
You need to put a hard return at the end of the .lin file. Never assume that it will automatically be done for you

Thank you SO MUCH! this does it for me, for what I need. I will try to figure out what I did wrong with entering the information, but what you sent works great!
Glad to have helped…cheers!!!
For some complex linetypes, LINOUT needs access to the source shape file (SHP, not just SHX) to decode the name of the shape. But generally, LINOUT works also in AutoCAD LT (2024 and on).
If you have a DWG (and SHX/SHP) where LINOUT fails, please send it to me to try to find a fix.
