Dimension Automatically Rotates

I must be missing a setting somewhere which causes a dimension to automatically rotates if I move a grip of one of the extension lines.  The 3.50' dimension needs to be parallel to the line with "SD" in it (see below).  Is there a setting I can change so this doesn't happen?

You can disassociate a dimension so it isn't 'bound' to any lines by selecting the dimensions you want and typing 'DIMDIS' or 'DIMDISASSOCIATE'

The 'DIMASSOC' system variable set to '1' makes all new dimensions automatically unassociative.

Thanks for the response but no luck.  The dimension continues to rotate when I apply those commands....

When you click the dimension what is 'Associative' set to?

If it's 'no' it should no longer move

Could you share the dwg or a part of it so we can have a look?

Greetings @joeroscia

Moving grips has consequences: in your screenshot, the dimline now aligns with the two points I highlighted, which tells me you opted for the incorrect "dim" command to use here.

Re-dimension using this command correctly instead (see LINK from HELP), then you can move grips after the fact anywhere you want without moving the dimline's original angle https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad/learn-explore/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/2022/ENU/AutoC...

@pendean is right, I was misunderstanding your question

You should for this case indeed use the 'dimrotated' command.

Note though that you are not giving the length of the yellow line in this case.
