Create a password protected file to allow changes

Hi all,

I want to create an autocad file with password protected so that only who knows the password can Edit the file

AND to open read only without a password.

is there a possible way to do that?

Nothing does that in the program.

What problem are you trying to actually solve? There are better ways for almost all of it if you are set up correctly for restricted sharing.

The problem is at the office we have a master drawing that contains blocks and things we use,

i want that file to open as read only always,

i want to protect it from changes so that only people knows the password can make the changes

Why not set up the permissions in Windows?

Why isn't your master drawing a DWT file, AKA an AutoCAD Template file, no one can overwrite it it requires someone to delete it then replace it.

SAVEAS command will create it for you, read all about it in HELP https://www.augi.com/articles/detail/tipniques-why-you-should-use-a-template

You can also fire your current IT person, hire a new one that knows how to set permissions on your file server to prevent anyone except you (or someone else) from editing files: that ability has ben around since computers showed up.
