Viewport bug

Im using the latest version 2025. I keep randomly having autocad switch our 3" = 1' viewports (which are locked, 100% verified) to 1:4, thus turning off the annotative text inside the viewport. This seems to happen randomly. Anyone else have this experience? Any solution?

Again, the viewports are locked.

Thanks

Hi,

  • I suggest to check from model space ANNOALLVISIBLE system variable = 1 .
  • CANNOSCALE system variable also sets the current annotation scale for the Model tab or a specific layout viewport.

That doesn't resolve the issue of the viewport switching the scales on it's own.

Possibilities:

Could be that you have another scale name that matches with the same definition.

Enter SCALELISTEDIT command and compare what's defined for: 3" = 1' vs 1:4

Try also deleting the 1:4 scale or moving the 3" = 1' up to the top of the list.

Question:

1. Does this happen on specific dwgs?

2. Can you share a sample dwg where this occurs?

[Only you can determine whether it matters, but 2025 is not the latest version.  If you upgrade, might it fix the problem?]

Hi @mlfgale, I just wanted to check in and see if any of the above suggestions have worked for you. If they have not, can please answer the questions previously asked:

  • Does this happen on specific dwgs?
  • Can you share a sample dwg where this occurs?
  • Have you tried updating to AutoCAD 2026?

and try the following steps:

  • Ensure that either the viewport scale or the page setup plot scale is at 1:1 (ideally page setup), keeping the desired scale applied to one or the other.
  • Insure the INSUNITS (Variable) is the same as the Workspace unit

Thanks, and I look forward to hearing how this goes!

Maybe we are thinking wrong from your request.

You said:  thus turning off the annotative text inside the viewport.

What is the annotative text inside that is changing. If we know that maybe someone can figure out the VP Scale issue.

Can you give us a copy of your file so someone can test the file itself.

I never set my drawing up by typing 1/4xp etc. But I tried it and saved the drawing. Nothing seems to change the VP Scale.

See my TEST PLAN I put here. See if you open it and for some reason the scale changes.

Hope this helps!

Thanks, JRR!

All annotation objects, which supports

scale 3" = 1' and not scale 1:4.

The only possible issue mentioned above.

Another Scale (1:4) what matchs the  scale (3" = 1') ratio.

Acad will use the first one, in order of the scale(s)list.

Come on @mlfgale - pls share a sample .dwg or answer to this idea.
