Missing Material Library on AutoCAD 2016

Hi! Recently my computer had to be fixed by formtting its system. After doing so all my file were kept (because I was working on a project) but obviously my the aplications were deleted. Afterwards I installed AutoCAD 2016 (student trial for 3 years)  with everyting I needed, AutoCAD 2016 itself and AutoDesk... but, when I tried to apply any materials it told that some file were corupted and had to be fixed. Obviously as you can tell I am not a 100% expert on AutoCAD's "missing files and what to do next" So I googled it and I came up with this (AutoDesk) page which mentioned: How to uninstall and reinstall Autodesk Material Library. I managed to unisntall the files and only install the medium materials library, but not the base material library or the missing libraries I require. And I can't fine any suggestions on how to "manually install" the libraries or use the (InstallationMedia)\Content\ADSKMaterials\2016\ILB\BaseImageLibrary2016.msi, which doesn't appear on that directory (only the "Material Library 2016" but thats it.

So I need help from anyone who knows or might now how to solve the problem, I need the material libraries so I can render, or at least apply the textures I need for my work.

Thanks!

Hi @SebasL7,

Welcome to the Forums!

Since you are admittedly a little new to doing this type of thing, why don't you do a Repair on your installation? If go go to your Control Panel>Programs it will show you your list of installed applications. Click on your AutoCAD installation and then at the top click on the Uninstall/Change button. You will see an AutoCAD window pop up that gives you the option to Repair your installation.

Let's see how that works for you. If that doesn't work I would do a total uninstall and reinstall being careful to indicate that you want the materials Library to be installed.

Once you do the Uninstall, I usually delete the AutoCAD folders from the system before reinstalling.

I have been working with this program since the days of Generic CAD. I have used every version of this program since then as well. When it was a DOS based program back in the day I could understand the hoops one had to jump through to create extremely simplistic 2D drawings. It was nothing more than a more efficient drawing board sans electric eraser tool. I've spoken to the OLD guard about the virtues of the drawing board. The immediacy and direct no nonsense results. The benefits of CAD is undeniable. Now we are trying to improve on "drawing board" programs. The ability to work in 3D is that next step that has been implemented for some time now. I can't say enough about the need for 3D in terms of efficiency and error reduction. That's where ALL CAD programs should be. Autocad is only sort of there. Autocad is a relic of the DOS days as is apparent when looking at the command line and when looking at most of the background functions. This is the main problem with the program. This is the cumbersome and glitchy experience that never ceases to maze me and frustrate me. I would move on to software like Solidworks but it's not my call as the companies I work for can't afford it. Primarily because they are so deep in bed with Autocad that to get out is cost prohibitive. I'm guessing this is what Autocad is depending upon. Establish enough of a client base that you don't need to worry about whether the software works well or not. How many revisions have been about window dressing instead of stability, performance, or even simplistic drafting requirements. How many revisions create new functionality and sacrifice other important functionality. So here we are. Autocad has retooled the installation process to be an account based download from the Autodesk server. One installs the program as a Standard install only to find essential parts of the installation missing. I've reinstalled and repaired this software post installation more times than I care to mention. Just the installation process is a GOD awful process where one has to provide a blood sample practically. I've installed larger programs with less trouble in far less time and without the inevitable glitches. Now lets say that everything is in there. All of the libraries, DLL's, MSI's, etc....I use the program with the fear that at any moment the fickle finger of software crash will come calling and send a percentage of my work to purgatory. All of the Autosave settings can't solve this. If I move the Autosave recurrence up to every minute then the program bogs down to a crawl. So I hit CTRL-S every action. And sure a report goes out. Some weak expression of resolution. Nothing comes back. Not a response even. Wait , I know, I can pay for a service call for problems with Autodesk software. Why should I pay for Autodesks problems? Maybe you'll say the error is mine. Sure I can accept a percentage of problems to be my own. I usually work those out on my own by surfing the web for the solution. That method resolves a large percentage of my own short comings. That is not what is at hand in this lengthy complaint. As far as I'm concerned Autodesk only cares about itself, not it's customer base. What, you have too many customers? You don't have enough time to address all of their needs? Sounds like a real problem. Maybe you should have stayed small enough to be able to support your customers. Or...you should make your service department large enough to handle the business you have. What I'm saying is, fix the program and do your job. Until then I will bad mouth the software and talk about the virtues of your competitors. This message is addressed to AUTODESK.
