Line weight not plotting in paper space correctly. I'm using AutoCAD 2022

I've never had this issue before and i've used AutoCAD for many years. Annoyingly it's probably one variable that has switched on or off, but can I find it can I heck. I've looked through he forum but not found the specific issue I have.

I've started using Acad 2022 recently, upgraded from AcadLT 2020.

I'm working on a set of elevations (drawn in Model Space), I've set line widths for different elements by colour (nothing unusual there). I'm using a plot .ctb file i've used before (without issue). Line widths set by colour. I've a titleblock and 4 viewports in Paper Space, 1 VP for each block of elevations. The problem is the line widths shown in Paper Space (I have Display Plot Styles ticked in the Page Setup Manager) and also that print from Paper Space come out far to thick and don't reflect the pen widths set up. They do print correctly directly from Model Space only and I don't know why.

Any thoughts please...

Kind regards

Gary

I've hopefully attached 2 PDF's, 1 from Model Space that is correct and 1 showing the Paper Space issue with the 4 Viewports, Titleblock that I can't seem to change.

Since I am at work I won't be able to download it.

With .ctb file, the color of the line in your drawing will dictate what prints out according to the properties for that color in your .ctb file.

For us, all colors print black or red (for construction changes) as seen in "color" row in table above, but blue prints thicker than yellow. This can be seen under the "line weight" row. So if I want something to print thin, I change the object to yellow. Problems occur when using blocks because the layers get nested and override things. You can explode the blocks (not the best), or change the block to "by block" in properties pallet. This prints the whole block in one color. Or you can change the colors of objects inside the block and those will take priority if you set the block to "by layer" instead of "by block.

Sorry if that is confusing, I am an armature myself. But I know that taking time to test and try things has helped me learn and be more efficient today.

Hi,

why not?

and your Plot (pdf)

+Screenshot of the issues

?

Perhaps the ctb is to old, recreate it with your currentversion.

I'm sending the file I'm using, but can't send you the ctb file....

Umm, if this is a company wide method, why are you not asking someone at your company (CAD manager or colleague or IT) about it not working?

We really can't help you here without it.

FYI your company's CTB method is a popular solution, and since that works for all of us all the time, you are either using the wrong CTB (just happens to have the same name), or the fact they are differently named altogether as evidenced in your DWG file

Are you using Revu Bluebeam to view your created pdf? That program has a setting that disables the display of lineweights, perhaps your pdf viewer of choice has the same function?

Did anyone find a solution? I have done all the things but still have global width in model and print as double line..

If you read through this thread you would know the only way for anyone here to effectively assist you is that you need to share your dwg, ctb, pdf and a screenshot of your plot window

Also do what version of AutoCAD and if you have the latest updates installed. Enter About command, do a screenshot and share that here

Paul, thanks for the response, right you are, files are attached.
ctb upload is not supported, but a new plot style was used. Different plot styles do not seem to affect anything, work files are having the same issue with work .ctb
Version 2025 - up to date.

Thanks.

Use ZIP function built into Windows to compress the file to post that here.

Or just use ETRANSMIT command from inside AutoCAD to create a DWG/CTB/everything else needed ZIP file to share.

you can see the problem with your model space vport when the UCSICON is showing that you are not set to WORLD:

paullimapa_0-1742825060409.png

I made a copy of your current layout, went into model space and entered the following commands:

UCS WORLD

PLAN World

Then I recentered the plan into the view and went back to paper space to reset the vport back to standard scale 1/8" locking the display

Now when printing to pdf the double lines which are PLINEs with width now shows filled.

FYI:  I used AutoCAD's acad.ctb since you did not zip and post yours.

Thank you Paul! I did not realize the UCS/PLAN of the viewport was not World.
Appreciate the assistance.

Hello Gary,

Thanks for sharing this with us on the forum. Based on the PDFs you provided, it's clear that the lineweights of the objects appear thicker in the plot from the Layout compared to the one from Model space. To check if a viewport lineweight override is causing this, please try the following:

  • In the Layout tab, double-click inside the specific viewport to activate it.
  • Type LAYER in the command line and press Enter.
  • In the Layer Manager, check the VP Lineweight value for the relevant layers. It may be different from the standard lineweight assigned to those layers.
