Autocad Export to compact clean SVG

Hi

Sorry but I am not an Autocad so this questions bares that mark.

I just received a PDF export from Autocad. A supermarket floor layout. After converting the PDF to SVG I see that all the vectors are broken up into unnecessary tiny fragments and the document is far larger than it should be.

I am sure Autocad can export to SVG, probably even only defined layers. My question is, how clean is the created SVG document? Are the vectors OK or do they get broken up into strange little pieces like via PDF export?

CAD cant do SVG. Id see if i could get a dxf out from CAD. PDF out losses much of the precision of the drawing as you see in the svg. 

Im not certain how clean a dxf to svg would be. 

If you upload the DWG some one might be able to convert it for you.

@TheCADnoob is correct that AutoCAD does not have the Export to SVG function. If you do a search  in this forum there have been several similar threads recently that have a variety of solutions.

What program do you want to ultimately get this into to?

Hi John, and thanks to both of you,

I am a developer and need to end up with a svg file to embed in a web page. Panning in and out using the svg as base layer.

I will try and get a cleaner export from Autocad. And will look into the DWG options.

I get CAD to output dxf and i have use Inksacpe to get to SVG previously. 

I believe John has previously mentioned that Adobe can also take in a DXF and get to SVG as well.

I routinely take AutoCAD DWG files striaght into Adobe Illustrator to create SVG files and it works very well for me.

Perhaps I misunderstood your issue. It seems that you have converted a PDF that was generated in AutoCAD. If it was created to retain vectors then they should be accurate. (If they were plotted to a scale).

You converted to a SVG file for some reason. What are you trying to do with the SVG file? How did you convert it?  You can attach the original PDF here and I can export it to you in a variety of formats if you tell me what the destination application will be.

I am using this in a similar ways as google maps uses charts as base layer to plot routes. SVG is extremely good for zooming in and out.

I am doing similar things as google except for floorspace trawings. Our solution analyses shopper behavior. Tracks how a shopper travels through a facility etc. I already recevied a PDF export from Autocad and used that to export to SVG. The problem is, is that most of the vectors are broken up into tiny bits. For example a filled circle has every dotas a vector. that circle is approx. 1 meter in diameter but contains 36.000 vectors 😕

I am trying to end up with a clean small SVG.

Can you attach the original CAD file? The PDF drivers do allow for some setting changes so i would like to see if I can improve the SVG quality for you.

Thanks for sharing this with us on the forum.

From your post, it looks like you're trying to export an SVG file from AutoCAD. Just to clarify, AutoCAD doesn’t natively support exporting DWG files directly to SVG format. However, you can use DWG to SVG converter tool, which should help you get the result you're looking for.
