Jerky Cursor in AutoCAD 2018

Anonymous
Not applicable

I've just started AutoCAD 2018 version.

I have everything working fine EXCEPT for a jerky cursor.

It works smoothly until a command is started.

Then, it takes a full second before it moves and then it jerks, almost as if a snap was set.

I've check past postings and have adjusted as suggested, but, to no avail.

I'm ready to start over and follow any suggestions you all out there might have.

Thanks but it could take me 2 years to find "Wireframe". Autocat has thousands of commands and routines.  Thjousands. So this is no help unless someone is already familiar with wireframe.

Thanks anyway.

@matt

This thread was not about snap. That is within the realm of autocad features put there on purpose.

This is about the cursor lagging when a command is started.

These are experienced people posting on the real issue and we are getting people posting on snap...

I have turned OFF the Snap cursor to 2D reference points(F3). Thanks it's works.

If anybody still having problem try below steps.

Turn OFF snap mode(F9).

Turn OFF Snap cursor to 2D reference points(F3).

also toggle between graphics acceleration from GRAPHICSCONFIG command.

We figured out the mystery on our side.

The symptoms revolved around Selection Cycling - when Selection Cycling was set to 2/ON, jerky cursor, when set to -2/OFF, no problems.  Removing the problematic XREFs temporarily fixed it, much like what you guys were dealing with.  This problem was happening on multiple machines with different configurations.

The problem was specific to a particular CAD file.

A suggestion by someone in this thread pointed to FONTS being used in the CAD file causing issues, and I think I may have found the culprit.

The particular project we're using uses Futura BT TRUETYPE fonts.  We were supplied these fonts by the architect for their border as a standard, but the architect ALSO used these fonts on their *room names*.  The other poster said it was their Swiss family of fonts, which is ALSO a truetype font.  (TTF files)

We noticed the slowdown happens when our mouse hovers over room names with that Truetype font being used.  If we use built-in AutoCAD fixed width fonts like Romans we have no problems, so therefore as a solution to this issue, we simply reformatted all the room names and fonts to use Romans - it looks uglier, but the architect never said anything about using their font standard for their backgrounds.

This was happening on three different computer configurations.  One was an i7 6700k running Windows 10 and AutoCAD 2019, another with an i7-4700k running Windows 8 and AutoCAD 2018, and another on a Xeon E3-1270 running Windows 7 and AutoCAD 2014.  All these programs can reproduce this problem by simply turning selectioncycling on/set to 2, so it's been a longtime issue, it's not new to 2017.  Hate to necro an old post but I came from Google searching.  The slowdown only happens if the cursor hovers over the text.

The solution that worked for me was:

Go to settings, Dynamic Input and disable all dynamic input settings (disable 'Enable Pointer Input','Enable dimension input',' and both 'dynamic prompts')

and

Go to options/drafting and disable 'display autosnap tooltip' and disable 'display autotrack tooltip'

The jerky or sticky tooltip is now mostly gone for me.  I use 2016 on this machine with dual nvidia GTX 980's.

It's been so frustrating having poor cad performance with top dollar gaming hardware.

On C3D 2020

disabling selection cycling made a huge difference! (ctrl+W is the shortcut)

Thanks a lot!

I need to use the perpendicular snap often, so it is usually checked on my list of snaps. It has been a problem though since for some reason it becomes a preference  for the program over the basic ends and middles. Many ends & intersection snaps I've missed over the years because of this, even though it is not noticeable on a print.  I would recommend keeping it off and type in "per" when you actually need it.

Some osnaps should not be "running" all the time, this is one of them (so is NEArest).
Thanks for sharing.

In addition to Dean's remarks, I would also remind you that you can also use [shift+right-click] while in the command to get the list of osnap overrides and choose the one you wish to use.  It's same result as typing "per" or any other alias for an osnap override.

Cheers,

Blaine

How in the world did this thread descend into "try turning osnaps off"?

Please people, read the threads a bit more. Try looking at the first couple posts.

This is not about acad basics. The people with the real jerky cursor problem have years of experience, many have more than the people at autodesk trying to help us. Just read the threads please.

Resurrecting an old thread, this turned out to be the solution to my maddening cursor issues in 2022LT. Still not clear what it did, but I'm not losing my mind anymore.

@vikingranchhq

If you are on LT a jerky cursor is the least of your issues.

Why not buy Bricscad Pro for same price as LT and get full acad abilities?

It has civil3d object enablers in case you are worried about that.

It does full lisp and .net, menus...all the stuff LT is missing from full acad, for same price.

thx

Where have you been? I see that your Autodesk bashing skills haven't gotten any better.
