I have AutoCad 2000 and drawings from newer versions that I need to view, cut and paste.  Possible or not?

Find DWG TrueView [a free download from Autodesk], which has the ability to convert newer drawings to older file formats.

The currently newest AutoCAD version 2022 can be read with AutoCAD 2018 and newer (they use the same file format).

For future AutoCAD versions we don't yet know it.

AutoCAD 2013 can read up to AutoCAD 2017

AutoCAD 2010 can read up to AutoCAD 2012

AutoCAD 2007 can read up to AutoCAD 2009

AutoCAD 2004 can read up to AutoCAD 2006

AutoCAD 2000 can read up to AutoCAD 2003.

And each version can read each older version.

Nope, you need a converter app to convert the DWG files down to your ancient version first https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/dwg-trueview/learn-explore/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/How...

I downloaded the true view app but its 64 bit and my old 2000 autocad and Windows XP is 32 bit and not compatable with true view 64 bit.  So maybe I'm stuck.

Where are the files in question coming from? Maybe you can ask the sender to saveas the files in your (2000) format?

Or, you can ask someone here in the forum to do that (if we don't talk about hundreds of files 😉  )

TrueView 2019 and 2018 are both available 32bit and will open all DWG files through R2022:

You can also download the 30-day trial and save down... or cut and paste from newest version to your stone tablet.😆

WindowsXP? Now you've limited yourself to asking all your file senders to save down your files for you to R2000 format.

Sorry and good luck.

That would be great, but when I reply and try to attach the files I get a message "content type (application/x-dxf) does not match its file extension and has been removed."

Do you have an email address I can send them to?

Try ZIPping them, and attaching the .ZIP file.

FYI, if you open the files directly from the .zip file rather than first extracting them, then they will be read-only.
