Hide command

I have a drawing that was done in 3D. I use the Hide command to see this drawing better but that's only temporary. I need to plot this out, I guess in 2D wireframe. But I also need a more permanent solution as the Document Control software I use creates a PDF from this drawing automatically. Is there a command where I can permanently hide the 3D lines? And changing the hidden visual style does not work. When I hit the 3D Hidden Visual Style button, it pixalates it in the plot preview.

Does that make sense?

The pixelation in plot preview will be affected by the quality setting (dpi) in the page setup. Change it to maximum (600 dpi, varies with printer).

Dave,

Go ahead and print it out - I think you'll find the actual print to be of a higher quality without the pixelation.

I use the following method to get high quality line drawings from AutoCAD to MS Word or Power Point.

  1. Set the Visualstye to 2D Wireframe
  2. Set the Display Silhouette value to 1 (DISPSILH = 1). This will remove face edges after giving the hide command.
  3. Enter the HIDE command.
  4. Note, If you need a smoother image use OPTIONS to change the Rendered object smoothness from 0.5 to 2 or more.
  5. Select the geometry and the type Ctrl-C to copy the image to the clipboard.
  6. Go to a MS Word document and do a Paste Special and choose Picture (Windows Metafile).
  7. Right-click on the image in Word and choose Edit Picture. You can now select the individual vectors that make up the image and change their color or line weight.  Set medium weight lines to 0.75pt.  After editing select all lines and Group them.  I also recommend locking the aspect ratio.

With this method you can embed line drawings in a document and scale them without getting any pixilation.

It occurred to me you have several other options. You can create an isometric view using the ViewBase command. Another possibilty is to us the Flatshot command or if you're old school try the SOLPROF, SOLDRAW, SOLVIEW commands.
