There is no doubt that "Filedia" is the answer.
But it looks likely there are some reasons for the Open dialog (window) suddenly disappearing.
A common cause is that an add-on (Autolisp or other application) was loaded and it sets "Filedia" to "0" and after the execution it doesn't set it back to "1".
