Finding the Point Cloud Ribbon in AutoCAD 2021

Does anyone have info on attaching a point cloud (.rcp file) in AutoCAD 2021? I cannot find the point cloud panel in the instructions I'm using. I'm not sure if it's because I am on the free trial version or if this is new to 2021. I was previously using the version for Mac, but switched to the original within a Windows environment. All the instructions/tutorials I have seen show a point cloud panel but I cannot find it anywhere nor can I use the command window to search for it or insert a point cloud that way. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

What kind of info? Start XREF or ATTACH command to attach a pointcloud.

I cannot find the point cloud panel in the instructions I'm using.

Would be a good help to see what you see 😉 or?

I'm not sure if it's because I am on the free trial version or if this is new to 2021.

It's 100% the same program, just another (30days) licence

I was previously using the version for Mac, but switched to the original within a Windows environment.

Good choice

A Panel you can see by select a pointcloud in the drawing, it is a context sensitive panel only.

1. XREF <choose Pointcloud in the upper left button>   or ATTACH command

  if attached

2. Select the point cloud and you can see a point cloud panel

Hoping it is right, because i never used it.

Hi,

>> Finding the Point Cloud Ribbon in AutoCAD 2021

This is as designed starting from AutoCAD 2020, the Point Cloud panel has been removed from the Ribbon.

To attach point clouds to a drawing:

  • From the Ribbon, on the Insert tab, click on Attach and select the file type corresponding with Point Clouds (*.rcp; *.rcs) or All Files.
  • Enter the command ATTACH or POINTCLOUDATTACH.

I am trying to figure out how to create a file and attach the point cloud so I can ultimately create floorplans/3D models of the space. I originally photographed the spaces using a matterport camera, downloaded the matterpak, and created a point cloud in Autodesk Recap.

I attached a screenshot of what I see.

Okay that is good to know. I have tried using the command window a few times and am also running into the problem that when I type something in and press enter, it doesn't look like the command is going through. Nothing happens. Screenshot attached.

Screenshot doesn't show the commandline after you pressed <enter>,

so it is the wrong timing for a screenshot.

And what is with the other commands you can read above?

_XREF or _ATTACH

?

I have pressed enter but it isn't doing anything. Is there some way it's frozen or blocked? Here's another screenshot.

Sorry,

i can not see an entered command in your screenshots

and no informations about XREF and ATTACH commands.

Written communication is difficult and takes practice, I know that well - but that's how it is.

We can not see what you seeing, we can only see what you write down or attach to your thread.

Perhaps i missunderstood your screenshot, but it is what i see.

Q: In this situation (what shows your screenshot)

What happens if you try to click with the cursor to the editor or menu

Nothing?

And after [ESC]

Try it again,

Yes, that's what I am trying to explain. When I press enter, nothing happens. The enter command doesn't go through.  When I click on a button in the ribbon, nothing happens.

What I am attaching is what I am seeing on my screen. The issue is that none of the commands are going through now. Do you know what I can do to fix this?

IF you can not start a command or selection without to press [ESC] first,

then:

Start the command and follow my hint to move a dialog window,

described here:

https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/autocad-forum/2018-add-delete-scales-popup-bos-missing-in-action/m-p/...

As you can read there, RENAME command is good for testing (IF you can see the Rename-Dialog),

If you understand what / how to do,

use it after you entered the PointCloudAttach command.

ALT+SPACE

M

Arrow key hit(1x)

then move your mouse (without pressing a key or wheel)
