Dimension Text Placement When Text Is Not In The Default Position

This seems to be an issue that seems to have gone un-resolved for many years. I've seen posts on various forums dating back to 2015. I'm using 2024 and I'm still unable to find any system variable or a workaround for this problem.

I have attached a screenshot that shows the Modify Dimension Style Dialogue Box. Under the "Fit" tab there is an option at the bottom for text placement when not in the default position but there is no option to enter a distance. In the example beside the dialogue you will see that when the dimension text does not fit between the lines it jumps away from the dimension line quite a significant distance. This is clearly not ideal as I then have to pick and drag every rogue bit of text back toward the dimension line.

Has there been a fix for this that I am unaware of?

That's not a common problem: the issue tends to be limited to
1) user experience/expectations
2) un-observed manual editing by others
3) some simpler missed settings.

Please share your problem DWG file and explain in a lot of detail how anyone over here can replicate the issue on demand every single time they do it.

As noted by the OP, they experienced it since version 2015, and for the most part nothing has changed with the program when it comes to dimensions since then, so can you shed more light on it by sharing an actual DWG file showing the issue and explaining how someone around here can replicate it?

There is a good chance you may just be fighting a limitation in the program's DIMSTYLE settings, nothing more.

Share when you can.

As said by @pendean the issue is an un-observed manual editing by others. From what I know, you'll have to manually reset (or reattach let's say) the number to its dimline by;

selecting the dimention, then hoverring the dim's number grip, and chossing the desired number to dimline relation.
Or you can try DIMEDIT > Home. But  weren't satisfied with this commande. Numbers were repositionned overlapping the dimline.

Had the same issue some days ago. I share here the post.

Solved: diemention lines: reattache number to its dimention line - Autodesk Community

For futur workflow with dims;
When dim's number doesn't fit well with object space (overlapping f.e.) and you want to change his location. Never do it by clic and draging. This inoccent appearing behavior causes our issue. Breaking the Number to Dimline relation.
Instead use the above mentioned workflow.
