by Block vs by Layer

Hello again.

 

I am used to and prefer setting parameters like linetype/line weight/colour etc by Layer.

 

What use is the By layer option? I have never used it because I know that I do not understand blocks too well. I know how to draw and create blocks and that's it (excluding adding fields)

 

NB: this by layer/by block question also applies to layer properties manager

 

Can someone please enlighten me?

I believe there was a typo in your question, and it is confusing us about when you refer to by layer and when you are talking about by block.
