Block Library

Hello Everyone,

For now if I need a block, for example a Hinge Door Dynamic Block, I got to type it in the search and I may find topics which has a block that I want.

However it is frustrating to go to the topic and find the final block because the block might have been updated and fixed and the solution shown may not be the right post.

Idea:

Create a library to upload/download blocks similar to pictures attached.

I think I should not say where I have taken the pictures from due to policy issues.

As you can see with typing the word "Door Plan" in search, the list of blocks matching closely to the title appears.

In upload section also, you have the option to update a block you already posted. Because as the time passes you learn new things and you may want to add/change a block of yours.

Thanks for reading. If this idea is worth being implemented in here, then please vote because your vote counts!

Cheers,

Behzad

Hi @Anonymous,

Ideas for AutoCAD are posted here, I know it's a different forum - but it's the only place for AutoCAD wishes, and they get voted there..

Autodesk follows closely the ideas posted there and implements a lot of them into future versions.. Wining wishes get a much bigger chance of being fulfilled than others - but no guarantees..

As for the wish itself - I think it would be very close to what Autodesk Seek provides if I'm not mistaken..

Best 'Wishes' 🙂

The pictures are from www.cadforum.cz, we are using this website almost daily but in Czech. I have never noticed they have an English version too.

Hi,

I did not say where I took snaps from due to possible policy issues. I thought we cannot mention other website here.

Thanks for revealing anyways 🙂

Rather than wait for Autodesk to make a universal block librarian on the Internet   (unlikely for many reasons) same the blocks you use to your local server/ system, and use ADC to insert from your own library.

Grabbing random crud off the internet is a good way to get random crud (possibly / likely including malicious content) in your drawings & your network.

Hi @Anonymous,

It is unlikely, in my opinion, that Autodesk will create a shared library of blocks or families other than what can be found in Seek. As JGerth, mentioned, it is difficult to cleanup , standardize and be liable for all the content that can appear in such a library.

It is a great idea though and I know there are a few really good libraries out there on the web. Thanks for your contribution!

I understand but this post or previous post  is not a solution.

I cannot accept any as a solution when the idea may not or cannot be implemented.

Thanks

Why the post has moved from Ideas to here?

It is still an idea no matter if you can provide solution or not!

Please take it back to Idea section!

here are tons of block libraries out there, or feel free to create your own.  the bottom line is that this is not something Autodesk can do for a large number of reasons, not the least being liability.

Hi @Anonymous,

As far as I can tell, your original post was here in this forum which is one in which I participate. I don't have the ability to move this to that location but I will see if the Discussion Administrator can do it.

There is no Idea board for the AutoCAD product that is why your post was moved from the Community Idea Board as was stated in the moved post information you received.

Therefore for now it is in the correct location in the community

Hope this helps
