Backslash added to file

I have 2016 Lt for Mac and my business partner has 2017 Lt for PC. We have never had a problem until she upgraded to 2017. Now every time she e-transmits files, a backslash is added to all the files and I cannot open them on my Mac. Why does this happen? How do we send files without it happening?

Hi @jbauer.eds,

I see that you are visiting as a new member. Welcome to the Autodesk Community!

I just ran a default (out-of-the-box) etransmit in AutoCAD LT 2017 and it does not add the character.

Can you show me the settings from your partners etransmit setup? Or perhaps zip up some files for me to try ? Maybe this has something to do with the location of the files or their names.

 John,

Please let me know what I need to change on the setting to address Jessica's concern on the files being sent. (see attached images)

Thanks,

Malou

Hi @Anonymous,

The only difference I see from my settings is the file format field. I have Keep existing drawing file formats selected.

Can you save a copy of the report and attach it to a post for me see? And, perhaps a screen shot of the Files Table would be helpful.

Hi @Anonymous,

Has your problem been resolved? I have not seen an update from you. If it continues, please send me the report I requested in my last post.

Thanks

Malou actually has left for vacation. What is happening is that when she sends me her files they come with the folder name added to the extension. ( see attached) She's not sending them that way but when I download them there it is. When it adds the name of her folder " current Dwg\ " the files wont open on my end.

I just downloaded CAD 2017 Lt for mac and its still doing it.

Hi @jbauer.eds,

I have to apologize. I thought you meant that the PACKAGE command in AutoCAD for Mac was adding the backslash at the end of the filename.  Instead, it is adding a path.

Is it possible to send me the resulting Zip file so I can take a look?

Hi @jbauer.eds,

I have been talking with some other specialists in-house and they recall that this is actually a Mac OS issue and not an AutoCAD one. I am trying to find what setting might control this. For now, I suggest just renaming the few files. Thanks for your patience.

Hi @jbauer.eds,

While I continue looking for answers on my side, please tell me if it makes any difference if you package to a Zip file vs just a folder.  If you package to a zip and then open on Windows does it look correct?

I will definitely do that when she comes back. In the meantime I wanted to
point out that our two computers worked well together PC to Mac when we
both had the 2016 versions. Since she upgraded to 2017 for the PC we
started having problems. Could it be that the new 2017 for PC has an issue
with sending file to a mac?

HI @jbauer.eds,

I interchange files between my Mac and PC versions of AutoCAD 2017 all the time without issue.  I am still waiting for some responses internally - thank you for your patience.

Hi @jbauer.eds & @Anonymous,

Under "Path Options" in the transmittal setup, she is using "Use organized folder structure" with a source root folder in drive 😧 (which is forced into the file structure in the etransmit package).

Do you have the same drive and root folder on your Mac? Maybe try changing the option to "Keep files and folders as is" and see if that doesn't help. That option uses a relative path for the files, so it shouldn't matter if there is a different root folder on your Mac.

HI @schurthing,

If I am not incorrect, the problem is going from the Mac to the PC. The options in Package do not match eTransmit on the Windows application.

Hi @jbauer.eds,

I was directed to this page  on the Apple Support site. It indicates that certain scripts might interpret special characters incorrectly.  Take a look and let me know if any of the suggestions might apply to your Mac/Windows configuratoin and file/folder naming conventions.
