Image or line work for company logo

We have been running our company logo which is a JPEG loaded as a raster image, approx. 380KB.

Would it be beneficial to create this as line-work to increase work flow? Or would it not be noticeable?

We xref in title blocks and try not to have more than 10 sheets in a dwg...anyone done this or notice a difference?

An image is a reference type file and must be included in any DWG transfers (via eTransmit), and they cannot be bound to the target drawing like an XREF.  We limit their use because of that.

Hi @Anonymous,

Can you share the logo? I have always preferred to keep such items as vector  geometry depending on how involved/complicated it is.

We insert ours as an OLE object. A normal referenced image has issues when sending the file to someone. Vector line work great and is typically has a small footprint size wise.

We only went with an OLE because it's our official logo from our marketing department, so there's no deviation from document to document when it comes to our logo.

The logo is just our name with a fancy bold text, that is shaded/shadowed.

I'll look into some of these options you guys mentioned. Is there more than one way to convert an image to line work? I know it can be done with a pdf...

Hi @Anonymous

There are some online vectorization converters that sort of work. I usually explode the text to outlines and then trace over anything else. If you want to send me the logo I am happy to take a look for you.

We had a similar thing I believe. It's been a while but I think this was our fix. We made the title block(not really a block) including the image of our logo a block. We then just put that block into a dwg. That dwg is what we use as our so called title block. We then reference that dwg into our drawings and place it on our paper space. Too edit the title block it's one extra step because I need to click on "yes edit block" or whatever it says then make sure you click save changes to get back out of the block. What this does though is allow me to just bind the title block to dwgs (with logo included) when I send them off to clients or consultants. Also since all the reference dwg contains is the block it is only 1 click to erase it after I bind it, if it needs to be changed or removed. I'm sure there's a better or easier way, but this seems to work good for us. It allows binding of the logo/title block and also makes it easy to send dwg with our title blocks binded to consultants, but also makes it easy for them to get rid of our title block and add theirs.

Trace the logo as native objects then wblock it for everyone to use.  Avoid OLE like the plague and don't run the risk of sending out drawings with an image reference.  Do this once and you can forget about it, do it any other way and have reoccurring problems!
