AutoCAD - Startup opens a new drawing

I have always had Startup of AutoCAD open in the startup menu, but lately it has been opening Drawing1.dwg

I have checked Startup which was set at 3, and Startup Mode set at 1

Startup set at 1 or 3 both do the same thing, I think something else go messed up.

Startup set at 2 is similar but does not have the top ribbon like before.

what else could be causing this?

or am I remembering this wrong and initially with the startup menu the top ribbon does not exist?

Hi @jduframe

Thanks a lot for posting your question to the forums!   The startup variables are explained here. I think you need to set it to 1 to get the behavior you want.

We look forward to hearing back from you with more information so we can help you as a community!

Startmode is set at 1, this is correct,

Startup (System Variable) is the one that I believe is not working correctly, when I set Startup at 1 or 3 they both perform the same.

what I am looking for is Startmode 1 & Startup 3, I just though it had a top tool bar or ribbon before. not sure now?

Startup 2 seems to be more of what I was use to having, I will leave it at that, just thought I remembered having a top ribbon or that the tool bar was larger at the top, something was bit different.

For me, STARTUP = 3, the default, displays the ribbon. Are you saying that if STARTUP = 1 then no drawing1 is created?

no I am saying Startup 3 creates a drawing1.dwg, which I have never had happen before, not sure if that is what setting 3 is suppose to do, but I change it to 2 now so I don't have drawing1.dwg when I open AutoCAD

Open the Registry Editor and navigate to Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Autodesk\AutoCAD\R24.2\ACAD-6107:409\Profiles\<<VANILLA>>\General. The actual key may vary, depending on what software you use, but it will be under the current profile. When STARTUP = 3, the key UseStartupDialog should not exist. If you have STARTUP  set to 1 or 2, then the key will be created. Check to see if that is happening. When you make a change in AutoCAD, you have to hit F5 in Registry Editor to refresh the screen.

Like I said, the numbers will be different depending on your software. 2022 is R24.1, Click on 5101 until you get down to the profile and then General.

oops I actually thought you meant the ending part of the Key, I actually seen AutoCAD 2023 available for download and was in process now of installing that, since I have extra time between projects right now.

If the key isn't there, then you have STARTUP = 3.
