Autocad 2015 Export layout to model space

Hello!
I am using Fusion 360 to create 3D, and then I create drawings from those solids. From Fusion I outputted the drawings to dwg. When I open the dwg in Autocad 2015, the model space is empty, and the views and notes are only in the paper space. I need to have them in the model space too, so I have tried with the command EXPORTLAYOUT, but it doesn't recognize it. I am sure this is a very simple operation, but I am quite new in Autocad, and I am a bit lost. Any help?! Thank you very much, and sorry for this silly issue.

Hello mmacia47, and welcome to the Forums!

Can you please post one of the drawings from 360 so I can have a look at it?

I forgot to mention that when opening the dwg (from Fusion 360) with Autocad 2015, it gives a message saying that the SHX file is not found. Im not sure if this information is of interest to understand the problem I am having, but just in case...

Not sure abut Fusion, but when this happens from an Inventor to AutoCAD format you can do several things:
1) try using the ChangeSpace command in AutoCAD to send the paper space item to model space
2) Try the "Insert" block command - each view is a block symbol that can then be placed and exploded.
May not be the same with Fusion, though...
Hope that helps, Kenny.

I am seeing the same thing that you are in 2015, also in 2016 & 2017. A Select/All shows 17 entities in Model Space, even though it appears empty.

Would it be possible for you to post the original Fusion 360 file so we can test it?

Of course!

Please find it in the link below:

Please let me know if you can access to the drawing.

Hi kennyj!
Thank you for the suggestions! It doesn't recognize ChangeSpace command... And I am trying creating a block and inserting it, but the problem is that, when I create the block, it doesn't select the edges of the views, I mean, the silhouettes of the objects. It only selects the notes, dimensions, the hatching and the titleblock... Do you know if there is something that I have to do to allow selecting the edges of the views?

I may not be understanding what you are trying to do here, so let's recap a little.

So when you type in EXPORTLAYOUT in the command line, nothing happens? It works fine in AutoCAD 2015 (w/SP2) here.

I have attached the .DWG file I created from that command.

Are you just trying to get the layout elements into MS, or is the issue that the 3D elements are not in the .DWG file, or is it both?

That is exactly what I need!

I am trying to get the layout elements into the model space.

But, still, when I type EXPORTLAYOUT in the command line it says "unknown command"!!!!

Which file did you open in Autocad? The dwg generated from Fusion? or did you import the .f3z file? Is this possible?

I just used the file you posted in the third post.

If AutoCAD is not letting you use that command, it may be due to some profile corruption.

Please try resetting AutoCAD to defaults:

How to reset AutoCAD to defaults

Make sure you back up any customizations before you reset.

Let me know if the command is working after the reset.

I forgot to mention that I was working in a Mac...

It seems that the EXPORTLAYOUT doesn't work for mac. And I have not found any substitute.

I tried with Autocad 2015 in a PC, and I didn't have any problem.

Thanks all of you for your kindness and help!

YES, I saw that you were using a MAC in your screenshot!

I usually ask what OS posters have right up front, but it didn't seem relavent...my mistake.

For future postings please post here:

AutoCAD for MAC Forum

In the meantime, let me do some testing to see if I can get something to work on the MAC side.

I will post back after I see what I can come up with.

OK, here is your new workflow!

After you have your project open, drop whatever piece(s) you want into a Design, then choose Export, and under Type, click the dropdown and choose SAT Files (*.sat) and Save it.

Then, from AutoCAD, choose File>Import>SAT file, then choose the file and the piece will be in Model Space in an AutoCAD drawing.

You should be able to create Layouts and Views of the model at that point.

I hope that helps!
