Solid subtract not working?

Am using Autocad 2016.

A book I am reading says to use Solid subtract to delete blocks from the walls at the door locations.

I tried this but nothing gets deleted.  Why is this?

Subtract a BOX it can do; but a BLOCK, no it can't.

Hi @Anonymous,

You are using surfaces instead of soild walls, so you must subtract box/block from both sides of wall or create your 3D walls use Polysolid command in the solid tab of ribbon.

Ah!  It is not on the Solid Editing panel.

I succesfully drew Polysolids.

But when I delete the boxes, no holes remain.  It just disappears.
