2022 Cursor Jumping

Is anyone experiencing cursor jumping in ACAD 2022? I find it happens about 50% of the time that I use stretch or move. After selecting the objects and hitting enter, and just before I pick my base point, the cursor jumps the the bottom of the screen and then instantly back. Then the command continues uninterrupted. Card is an AMD Firepro W5000 with all the latest drivers. Do not have the problem with the exact same configuration in 2021. Curious if it's a bug or if I should keep trying to track it down through video settings.

Hi @sdvannelli,

It seems like jumpy cursor issues are often related to graphics, the Cursor is slow, jumpy, or jerky in AutoCAD article in the Autodesk Knowledge Network discusses a few others.

Is this happening in all files, even new ones with just a couple objects in them?

If occurring in a specific file or files, can you share one for testing?

Also, if you can capture a ScreenCast of it occurring, that should help with trying to reproduce the issue.

Turn off LINESMOOTHING and LINEFADING variables, does that help?

If not, and before you turn off hardware acceleration, try this https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/autocad-forum/issue-with-1660ti-on-autocad-2022/m-p/10198358#M1048482

Happening with all files, none of which are new. I tried turning off STATUSBARAUTOWRAP to see if it helps, but it's on in 2021 and that does not have the problem.

Hi @sdvannelli,

Thank you for the added information. I look forward to hearing if the suggestions in the article I shared help.

In addition, be sure to check your system meets the requirements for AutoCAD 2022.

Hi,

what happens if you disable hardware acceleration (command _GRAPHICSCONFIG, just for test)?

Unfortunately none of these worked. The only one I didn't try is turning off HA because I find it unbearable to work with it off. If I do try turning off HA and it fixes it, what does that tell me? Would that be saying my graphics card is just too old? Or something else?

Hi,

As I wrote "JUST FOR TEST" ... I never told or wrote that this is a final solution, but needed to isolate the issue.

>> I do try turning off HA and it fixes it, what does that tell me?

This means it's the graphic card driver which seems to have issues to run well with AutoCAD.

Try a newer driver or maybe downgrade to an older one.

I finally got an image on my screen where it will keep doing it, so I recorded it. It happens twice in the recording. The first time is almost instant because as soon as I move the mouse, it jumps back to where the cursor is supposed to be. The second time I didn't move the mouse and you can see it stayed in the jumped position until I move it. I also did try turning off HA, turning off line smoothing and fading, tried all versions of STATUSBARAUTOWRAP, changed the size of the command line from 3 to 2 to 1 line, changed drivers, and changed all my graphics cards settings. Nothing fixed it.

I'm open to any other suggestions.

I didn't have the Autodesk Screencast on my computer so I used a different software. After I restarted to be able to use the screencast, I couldn't get it to keep repeating, so the attached video is all I have.

Hi,

would have been great to see which command was active. One time I have seen endpoint snap, which means you have not just moved the cursor, there was a command active and a point was requested.

So my questions:

  • does that happen only in this dwg-file
  • only with this command (or which other commands show the same effect)
  • only with these object snaps (reduce the number of object snaps and see how it behaves)

The command at the time was simply copy. As soon as I pick the object and then hit enter, that is when it happens. I then hit escape and did it again, so it was "copy" both times. I do have osnaps on at the time of the video, but it does it with them on or off.

Hi,

>> enter, that is when it happens.

Please turn off

  • all object snaps, only leave "endpoint" as active one ... same issue?
  • 3D object snap <F4>
  • dynamic input <F12>
  • AUTOSNAP <F11>
  • polar tracking <F10>

... does any of these help

I think you may have helped isolate it Alfred. My running osnaps are endpoint, node, quadrant, and perpendicular. Always have been. I tried turning them all off and only having one on as you mentioned about endpoint. It turns out that perpendicular is the problem. Whenever perp is on, it does it. When perp is off, it works fine.

It happens in multiple drawings, and typically on commands that are asking for a base point (copy, stretch, move). So it seems like for some reason, perpendicular is making the cursor jump to what it thinks is going to be the base point. But it's not even jumping to an object - it just jumps to a blank space.

By the way, 3D Osnap is always off, Polar Tracking is always off, Autosnap is always off, Dynamic input is off, and I dock my status bar.

The thing that drives me crazy is that with all the exact same hardware and settings on the exact same computer, 2019, 2020, 2021 never had this problem. Actually, in 33 years, I've never had this problem.

Knowing this, anything come to mind that could be causing it?

Thanks.

As an aside, I did make a screencast and put the url in the "Paste a screencast URL" box, but it didn't post for some reason. Trying it now with the "My Screencasts" option. Maybe it will work now.

Extension, Tangent, and Parallel also do it for some reason. I can't see the similarities in these 4 choices.

If it does not happen on demand and is random, there is no fix. You appear to have a specific trigger yet to be identified.

Is this a wireless mouse? or mouse with a dedicated driver?
Disable the 3rd party mouse driver, use a generic wired mouse, try it again. Still jumpy?

I think I may have figured it out with all of your help. I do use 3rd party mouse drivers because I have nerve damage in my hands and the only mice I can use are 3-button Contour Design Contour mice. I have both a left and a right hooked up and switch back and forth at will. Contour's drivers always sucked, so I had found a third party driver that worked great with them and within Autocad, up until 2022. It's been a few years since I checked Contour's drivers, so I downloaded them (which are much improved) and everything works fine.

Thanks to everyone for all the ideas and help.

Same problem here, cursor jumps with Move command about 2" of screen distance down and to the right at about 280 degrees. The only consistency is the distance and angle the the cursor jumps. Video card is NVIDIA Quadro T2000 with Max-Q Design. Only happens with Move command. Happens with most files but not all files, possibly the more heavily populated files but nothing established yet. Turning off HA does not fix it. Turning off all running object snaps does not fix it. Logitech wireless mouse is using a standard driver. All the same everything does not happen with 2020.
