C4DtoA 4.8.5.1 Crashes constantly

Hi,

I'm experiencing continuous crashes in both Mac (M4) and PC with latest plugin update for C4D.

The scene isn't complex. Just textures, toon shaders/render, and some non-hi poly meshes..

are there any common issues or it's just me? Do you recommend to roll-back?

Thanks in advance.

The latest plugin version is working fine on my workstation. Do you have the same crashes in every scene, or only in a specific one? Do the crashes started to happen after a plugin update? If so, what was the last version that was working?

Can you send me the minidump.dmp file from that _bugreports folder you have in your screenshot (if exists)?

Edit: Minidump added

Hi Peter,

Seems to be this project. Tested older and different scenes and it works ok so far.

The issue happens while running the IPR while changing parameters in the shaders (both the old xpresso and the new node system)

I can't attach the minidump (it says the extension .dmp isn't supported), but attached the bug report.txt.

Happy to send the collect, but since it's just this particular file (I was just starting creating that scene just for fun so I will start from scratch at any other time), no worries.

Thanks

You could just rename the dmp file to minidump.txt

You can rename to txt as Stephen suggested or add it to a zip file. Unfortunately, I can't do much with the _BugReport.txt file, because it does not have any debug information we need.

If the issue is specific to your scene and it's not confidential, would it be possible to share that scene? Or a minimal version of the scene with replacement meshes and textures, that still show the problem?

Sorry, I still can't see the minidump attached to the report.

Hello Peter,

I have uploaded the project file and the mini dump days back..let me know if you had time to look at it.

Thanks,

Sorry for the late reply. I could get to your issue only today. The good news is that I can reproduce the crash with your scene. I'm not sure yet why it's crashing though, I have to investigate more. Will let you know.

Can you please try to set 'enable_fast_ipr off' in Render Settings > Diagnostinc > User Options, and see if that fixes the crash?

Did that and it's the same.

Keep crashing on simple things such as changing object subdivision or trying to open a shader..

Good news, we have found what's causing the crash. Sorry, that it took so long. It will be fixed in a next release. In your repro scene, the displacement on the Cube is triggering it, but it's a more generic problem introduced in one of the recent releases.

Hey Peter,

Sorry for the delay. I have been playing with the file and got to the same conclusion. I have deactivated the displacement node and it ran ok. In fact I have finished the little scene:

Thanks for the quick support, even when we couldn't fix it for now. 👍
