More available variables for the drawing name

More available variables for the drawing name

Hello, Autodesk,

At the moment one can use only following variables in the drawing name:
Drawing number, position number, sequence number, single part number, model name and assembly.
It would be much more comfortable if one could insert there also the data from the project data as a variable, e.g., project name and project number.

Project name or job number in the dwg name-this is useless in the reality, because no fabricator on face of Earth will release drawings from two different job numbers or project names at once, stacked in one place.

Unless you like to see 1,302 dwgs having same first few words as a project name.

I would not have entered this idea if it was not absolutely used by many big companies.
Most of these companies, have a data Managment system. Then these data management systems associate the drawings and models with the help of the project number and project name.

Agree-but Job No and Project Name are repetitive, the PM assistant will have to type them once when setting up the project.

Otherwise we will have to look at the following all day long:

176027-748 Main St-Beautiful Town, BR-Dwg 1021-ANSI B.dwg

176027-748 Main St-Beautiful Town, BR-Dwg 1022-ANSI B.dwg

176027-748 Main St-Beautiful Town, BR-Dwg 1023-ANSI B.dwg

176027-748 Main St-Beautiful Town, BR-Dwg E2023-ANSI D.dwg

This inability is crippling! There should be NO limitation of tokens accessible to this function, granted of course that it contains alphanumeric data and not symbols blocked by the OS. Hours are spent renaming files to include cost code, fab shop, secondary and tertiary phaseing, purchase order, supplier ... I could go on. This failure seriously needs to be addressed. It's difficult to understand how tokens are available to store data within AS but are so difficult to access and manipulate, based on the requesting process, be it a List, BOM template, drawing label, titleblock text, etc.

Is there an update on this? Drawing file names should have unique identifiers irrespective if its a GA, Assembly or Single Part Drawing. This is currently not possible and really not acceptable.

A simple solution would be to allow tokens such as project number to be used in the file name selector.

Yes this would be very helpful. All our drawings (pdf and dwg) in company must include project number, so now I have to modify manualy drawing names.

In our company we put (need) the the mass (weight and area) of assemblies and parts on the titleblock, for (if needed) construction, logistics and quotations, very handy indeed. we also deliver it on documentations list (seperated FULL/all BOM lists of the project).

Example:

But i can't find any mass or area token for the titleblock.

Autodesk is it possible to ad these tokens in near future?

Thank you very much.

Here you can find a list of all possible tokens:

Sorry, the list is in german.

But we can not say, when Autodesk can create new tokens.

I have that page printed (png file) and on my desktop to gather the information faster, but unfortanly no weight and area  :(, at least not yet.

Oh and totaly forgot!

Is it possible to ad multiple tags/tokens/properties to a single "text line" / attribute line (text box)

for example (in just 1 text line):

Drawing number:

20006.2.1000.P01.01

20006 - Project number

2 - Assembly/sub-assemby/part Type

1000 - Assembly/sub-assemby/part number

P01 - page/sheet number (not always applicable)

01 - revision number (not always applicable)

Hi,

The "Project number" token is working in the Drawing Process - Filename selector, among other tokens from "Project data", including Project user attributes.

Please see this article:

Many thanks to @nial.ball for push and for testing 🙂

Hi,

It is true that some variables have been working in the FilenameSelector since version 2020, but these variables do not appear in the selection list for the FilenameSelector. Most of the variables from the project data can be used in this way. However, the FilenameSelector cannot be extended indefinitely with variables. The database table only allows a maximum of 64 characters. In addition, since many users do not know how to get the correct designation of the variables, it would make sense to supplement this selection list with the possible variables and to issue a warning message if the FilenameSelector becomes too long.

Hi,

I have created several new records in the database from existing tokens and it works great.

As an standard available tokens:

New entry in database - group Prototype important!

New available token for drawing name.
