Layer system for system line or median line in Advance steel

Layer system for system line or median line in Advance steel

I would like to see the system line or Median line that Advance steel draws with to have the ability to be on a different layer so it can be frozen.  We have other disciples like Mechanical and Electrical that want to view our models in there drawing set up.  They are not able to freeze these lines without freezing the whole beam or channel.  We have to delete the Advance Steel Smart info to even get it to be usable for the other Disciples.  It would help if Advance steel was a little user friendly on some of the layers so they can be frozen in the views that the other disciples use for there drawing set up since they are still using autocad.  I have seen software in the past (prosteel) that made this possible and didn't have to make a special model for the other disciples.  This would help to save time.  Can this be added.

Can you please clarify a bit more why this requirement is needed ? The system line in Advance Steel is just a representation for the definition line of the beam, and has grip for stretching, but the beam is only one element : BEAM. There aren't two different elements : the beam physical size and its system line, so freezing the layer where the beam is, with automatically freeze the system line too. Also if the system line would be drawn on a different layer (for example to control its color easliy), then you still wouldn't benefit from freezing the system line, and not freezing the beam physical element, as the two are strongly interconnected.

The issue we have is that we have disciplines that detail/Paperspace engineering drawings using the Advance steel models and the system lines plot on the drawings and cause confusion. If they just didn't plot would be a big help even. Ideally they would be able to be toggled on and off in the model advance properties.

The issue she is referring to is not with using the model. The issue is when you use the model as an external reference. Generally, you would not want to see the system line if you are referencing the model for use in other discipline AutoCAD drawings. The system line is causing issues with visibility control. Currently one cannot manipulate the system lines like you can other lines within an AutoCAD environment. The line color is predefined for you and cannot be changed. Like someone mentioned before, if it just did not plot, that would be an improvement.

I have worked in two places now (in mining) where this has become and issue. All models need to have the facility to be visually manipulated by layers. I Have been using AutoCAD since about Release 10, this is the first time one of it's applications has been like this.
