drawing number prefix feature

drawing number prefix feature

I hereby submit the idea to add support for drawing number prefix.

Click a flag and, WHAM! That drawing is now E100, an erection drawing. A different flag could toggle "G" for gather sheets, (parts drawings to you programmers).

This should be something that can be added to Drawing Style Manager so users can create their own drawing prefix for whatever reason they so desire.

For me this would look like...

E = erection drawings

M = Misc steel

G = gather sheets

D = deck drawings

J = Bar Joists

I also like to number my sheets by building sequence or floor level. This will add more sheet numbers in my range for use as well. Make it simple!!

Etc...etc..

Hi, this is already possible within advance steel, using a combination of the correct drawing process with a file name selector, combined with some management tool defaults and prototype set up.

Also depending upon how you number the model can also be used to determine the drawing file name and title.
I expect the using of the default number process , with drawing number, if this is changed to use numbers and combined with prefix settings for model roles, the part and assembly part numbers and names can be determined. Also arrangement drawings can be determined by number and type, linked to camera processes to determine the output in conjunction with the file name selector.

I think you cold get close to what you required with a little compromise to work with AS standards.

Status changed to: Implemented

As John explained, there exist several options by using Advance Steel tools for the desired results. For the things, that are not possible yet, maybe this idea: could be a good fit.

If I have misunderstood something please let me know and explain in detail, what you are looking for. Thanks!

Is there a tutorial or procedure text I can refer to? I was anticipating a simpler solution. Something more along the lines of a check box in the drawing manager that I can enable to simply add an 'E' prefix to drawings checked off. A multiple choice based on parameters set in the Management Tools defaults or project settings. Very much like the 'Status' function. Could that same function be duplicated as this?

See the image below. I am manually renaming to indicate that these drawings are miscellaneous erection drawings.

Another drop down list to choose the parameter for the drawing number prefix. Of course 'none' can be one of them. Similar to the user attributes in the project settings another 5 or so data fields can be added. It would be desirable for me at least if the drawing name and sheet number matched too.

Correct me please if I'm missing something. Thanks!!

There are several places, where you can find information about Advance Steel customization. Please find some start points below. Perhaps also a 2nd level training about drawing styles and processes could be helpful.
