Advanced Steel NC format

How to change the Advanced Steel NC file format?

We have a CNC machine that drills holes in Equal and UnEqual Angles.

It can read in NC files (or NC1 files) but Advanced Steel does not seem to create the right format.

The NC file created from Advanced Steel doesn't look anything like what is required?

Can the format be changed to what is required?

This is an export from the hole drilling machine.

This is the format required.

The NC file output from any steel detailing software are DSTV format, it cannot be change. It is the standard used by beamlines (Peddinghaus, Voortman, etc). I'm not sure what is the format of your example. You could try to export to DXF and see if your CNC machine can read those files.

We need the 3D feature of NC files.

With dxf the machine will not know which leg of the angle member to put the hole in.

This is how the code looks from Advanced Steel

Accepted solution
AS outputs are based upon the dstv code only. There is additional output for Wiscon data, this can be used to import into MIS system.

You will find the dstv code document on the web that explains the format.

For individual machine codes, this would require import into a MIS system, like strumis, fabtrol, fab suite , advance workshop . in there it would be post processing operation to send to specific work centre/machine .

It would take the primary nc data and translate it to the machine centre direct nc code.

For several leading MIS systems there is the opition to use the SMLX/IFC export and also dedicated formats to allow for full data transfer beyond nc dstv data.

Also for USA they have IFC Mvd export setting to work with Steel Project software.

That's great, our company has just recently purchased Strumis but it hasn't been installed yet. This will happen in the next few weeks.
We've already been told that Strumis will communicate with Ficep, which are the machines we have, but I didn't know it will do the translating for us.

Look forward to testing this out.
Hope so much that this is going to work!

You should be fine, they just made a new link with strumis for advance steel , link below to news page and plugin on strumis website.

https://www.strumis.com/news.php?id=792

So you use the model and the smlx straight out to strumis.

Good luck, hope it workes out.

Hi. My company is very new with Advance Steel and I'm having problems reading the nc code that was generated using Advanced Steel and wondering if we can modify the Advance Steel code similar to the current code we are generating using Striker Systems. I'm sure you already answered this question for FProcp but i'm not following.
