Translating multiple geometries to multiple primitives

Hello,

I'm a modder since few years now and I'm so bored about the collision making process.

For each interior projects, I need to create hundreds of primitives boxes/cylinders, but adjusting the size and position of each of them is a real nightmare. I sometimes spend more like 6 hours to do that, and I'm 100% sure that game studio (who worked in 3ds as well) used a simple script to generate those models.

What I would like to do exactly is:
- Select some geometries (editable polys),
- Type the amount of total primitives or the details level,

- The possibility to choose between cylinders & boxes ( absolutely optionnal)

I'm very very new to MaxScript so I wanted to know if someone can explain me the rough process to do it.

PS: I'm working on 3ds Max 2016, and I'm French 🙂

I normally use PhysX for the creation of simplified convex hull objects for the collision check. Search for nvpx in the help.

You are naive. Trust me ... big and famous companies outsource this to China. 😀

... but small companies that don't have enough money and human resources develop some tools. And these tools(scripts) are non-trivial and are usually designed and developed exactly according to the needs of the project.
If you can put together a more detailed "technical task", maybe someone can help you with the solution.

Or they use an automated workflow, if they don't like to find their data on public Chinese servers 😉
