Hi,
I was trying to find out how to make a directed moonbeam light ray for my course assignment and I came across this tutorial:
Vray IES light in 3ds max
www . youtube . com / watch?v=P_4GJtEkiUY
Why doesn't my 3ds Max 2017 have the Vray IES Lighting option that his does? I only show Photometric and Standard under my Lighting options. Is it because I'm using the student version? Is there some sort of plug in that I add into 3ds Max that will give me this option? So much more highly professional looking and I'd really like to use it in my scenes and renderings.
As usual, any and all help will be appreciated and responded to as soon as I see it! 🙂 Thank you all so much!
Sincerely,
Crystal

V-Ray is a commercial rendering plugin for 3d computer graphics software applications. It is developed by Chaos Group. You need to install it first to have those Vray IES Lights...check this location : http://www.chaosgroup.com/en/2/vray.html
Alternatively, you can do that effect even by using 3ds max standard scanline render engine or mental ray render engine.

Thank you so much, rendermaster!!
I'll do this!! My assignment's not due until tomorrow so I think I'll have enough time to get it and use this 🙂
Sincerely,
Crystal
IES Light is a Vray lighting plugin used to create spotlights. IES Light requires a special file called an ies (.ies) file. This file will then display the spotlight based on the file you input. to download ies file you can visit ieslibrary.com
Hope it is useful,
