Quad menu viewport graphics issues.

Hello!

Quad menu opens where is clicked in viewport, but on the left side of the screen/left monitor I get the viewport part behind the quad menu that was open, and it keeps stacking every time I open quad menu. It is happening on the windows/toolbars that are static.

Tried to downgrade, upgrade, uninstall, reinstall, different drivers, old ones, new ones, windows reinstalls, window updates, different accounts, one monitor, two, three, different graphics modes, run as admin, etc.,  like I have tried everything I could think of in past few days, but still no luck!

Fresh windows 11 install, 3ds max 2023, etc. This is the second time I did a format and new installs and the same thing is happening.

Chatted with support but they could not help, got opened a case but still waiting on that. Hopefully some one here has an idea what to try next?

Sharing a short video.

Thanks!

If it's a Windows build issue, I'm running the dev flight of Windows 11. Which has been using the "24H2" features since about March 2024, so maybe that's why I've had these glitches for such a long time.

I generally just ignore them, but it would be nice to see this fixed. It seems that 3ds Max is messing with some graphics buffers that are left to the main screen. For example, when I use the Windows snipping tool to take a screenshot, the whole desktop gets 'overdrawn' with the snipping overlay and these glitches disappear from the left screen, only to reappear the next time I click on the quad menu.

Interesting! I was also thinking it was a Windows update or graphics card update issue or a different connection when I moved.
If it is indeed a Windows issue, maybe we should go ask this question on the Microsoft forum.

I didn't have this problem last November.

Did anyone install Windows update 26100.3321  (KB5052093) to see if it solves the problem? It seems it solved issues with Corona render, not related to this issue.

Hello everyone. I'm having the same problem, it's the first time it's happened to me even though I've been using dual screen for many years. It appeared after Windows 24H2 update. If I make my left screen the first screen and restart windows the problem is solved. But then if you change it back and restart windows again and want to use 3dsmax as before, the problem comes back. This is obviously a textual problem. It only happens in the quad menu. I believe Autodesk will find a simple solution to this.

Hello everyone, I also encountered this glitch after updating from Windows 10 to Windows 11. I spent an entire day trying numerous solutions. I played around with BIOS settings, reinstalled all drivers, and even performed a clean installation of Windows 11 without internet access to try and track down which drivers might be causing this glitch. However, even after the clean installation and without updates, with only a fresh install of 3ds Max (I installed only 3ds Max right after the clean Windows installation), the glitch was still there. I had nothing left to lose, so I installed a clean version of Windows 10, and the glitch disappeared.

My setup: Intel i9 9980XE, ASUS WS X299 Pro SE, RTX 2080 Ti. I suspect the issue is related to the motherboard and problematic drivers, but I really hope a solution to this problem will emerge.

@nailone99 , please see this post by @spacefrog_ .  I did steer things in the wrong direction trying to figure this out, but that's the process sometimes.  It was Spacefrog though that found the actual problem and a workaround.  💓

It does seem to be related to how W11 handles some things but the problem seems to be triggered in 3dsmax, as noted in that link.  So, somethings changed in W11 and hasn't been updated in 3dsmax yet.  For now, monitor placement seems to be the best workaround if you are on W11.  (As I understand it, but I'm still on 10.  If it ain't broke, don't fix it... I always say.)

Best Regards,

Gonna throw my two cents in as well,

I didn't have this issue last week. Windows forced an update to 24H2 a few days ago and now I'm having the exact same issue. I'm not sure what build of Windows I had prior to the "upgrade" unfortunately and can't roll back since storage sense figured those files weren't necessary anymore. AutoCAD is also having a very similar issue when moving docked menus around, so I assume that this was caused by the update.

I did some extra digging into what they changed with 24H2 and they made some changes to the way Windows handles drawing graphic regions. I have no clue if that's applicable to what's going on, but I figured it might help explain what exactly is breaking.

Dell Precision 3660

RTX A2000 12GB

Windows 11 10.0.26100 Build 26100

This is my Windows 11 version. This issue didn't occur when I was using Windows 10.

It's a new discovery that this 3D Max bug doesn't show up under Windows screen recording; you can only capture it by filming it with a phone.

Hi all.

So I went back to windows 10, no issues, even everything else works little better, faster, snappier...

I recommend it to all who is working all day with 3ds max, PS, and similar, much less headaches.

Cheers.

Unfortunately, Windows 10 will no longer receive security updates starting in October 2025, so it is strongly recommended that you do not use it beyond this period.

I think by now it's obvious that the problem is only with 3Ds max and maybe other autodesk products (someone reported).

I don't have issues like these with any other software at all.

Autodesk, this is you. Please, fix the problem already.

Unless it's a Microsoft issue. It worked fine on Windows 11 before an OS update.

But if it was a microsoft issue at least one other software would have issues as well. In my experience that's not the case.

Yeah, it seems it is happening only with the quad menu.

This issue should be fixed in 3ds Max 2026.1 and newer versions.
