Quad menu viewport graphics issues.

Hello!

Quad menu opens where is clicked in viewport, but on the left side of the screen/left monitor I get the viewport part behind the quad menu that was open, and it keeps stacking every time I open quad menu. It is happening on the windows/toolbars that are static.

Tried to downgrade, upgrade, uninstall, reinstall, different drivers, old ones, new ones, windows reinstalls, window updates, different accounts, one monitor, two, three, different graphics modes, run as admin, etc.,  like I have tried everything I could think of in past few days, but still no luck!

Fresh windows 11 install, 3ds max 2023, etc. This is the second time I did a format and new installs and the same thing is happening.

Chatted with support but they could not help, got opened a case but still waiting on that. Hopefully some one here has an idea what to try next?

Sharing a short video.

Thanks!

Hello to everyone,

I have the same problem. I have triple monitor setup. Problem occurs always on left monitor from current with 3ds max. When 3ds max on left (Ooo) eveything works good.

Threadripper 3970x, Asus motherboard, RTX4090

Problem started when I reinstalled windows 11 and 3ds max from 23 to 25.

Thanks for posting your info @dia.vienna.

At this point it's clear that it's somehow related to ASUS motherboards.  I may have already asked this, but has anyone done any BIOS updates?  There's enough information here to sort of prove there's an issue somewhere.  Maybe the HDMI cable is bad?  Any chance you all bought the same ones?  Or, it's probably a BIOS setting or something, but creating a support case at ASUS might also be in order.

Clearly there's a problem and 3dsmax seems to show it, but if only ASUS folks have this issue I'm not sure that means it's a 3dsmax issue per se.  (Or not just 3dsmax.)  Something similar happened in 2017 and the community posted their info and we all discovered it was related to 3dsmax and the NVIDIA drivers.  It got fixed quickly after that, but doing this legwork is the hard part.  Thanks to all in this thread who have taken the time to post, btw.

My guess is that the case hasn't gained traction because Autodesk can't repro the problem on their end.  So, maybe it's time to loop in ASUS.  I like ASUS but their customer service is slow, so best to get that ball rolling.  I've never had a support case at ASUS that didn't get resolved, eventually.

One last comment, for those of you with the problem please create a support ticket at Manage.autodesk.com.  The more cases filed, the more information they have.  It's really important that you do this, and thank you.

Hello,

(replied to Diffus3d, but applies to all affected in the thread)

I have been investigating this issue, but could find no satisfactory cause, or solution, at this time.

It was escalated to the development team.

The ID is MAXX-79059.

I do not have access to release schedules.
I invite those affected to follow the standard procedure:
We monitor the release page and check the notes of any future releases for the ID.

I regret I cannot be more help on this issue.

Thanks for your patience and understanding.

Best regards,

I am not sure that it is related to ASUS Motherboard, because I didn't had any similar problem coupe days ago, before updates of Win 11 and Max 25. 3ds Max is the only software where this problem occurs. And I also think it has nothing to do with cables. Should be a software(windows, 3ds max)/drivers problem (asus mb or nvidia graphic card).

Motherboard: ASUS ROG ZENITH II EXTREME ALPHA

I looked for other threads where users are having problems with ASUS m/b and W11 updates.  Seems like there is some kind of problem in other software too.

Windows update blocks

Windows 11 24H2 is breaking some ASUS PCs

Windows 11 causes bluescreens on some ASUS models

ASUS's own update to W11 page  (Shows to update bios first thing.)

So, in my mind the problem has to do with W11 24H2 and ASUS drivers.  Has anyone posted an ASUS case or updated their BIOS?

Hi. I'm having the same problem and my motherboard is a Gigabyte b650 aero g.

The problem doesn't happen if I have only one monitor on.

My second monitor is on the left. If I restart the pc with both ON, the glitch happens. If I restart windows with only one monitor, it does not happen.

(EDIT: If I set my monitor on Display Settings in windows to the right, it does NOT happen. Then I change it again to the left without restarting windows and it does NOT happen either. Then I restart windows and it starts happening again)

The problem started happening from one day to the next with no apparent reason.

I don't have a fresh install as others said.

A couple of weeks ago I did update my bios because I replaced my 7950x with a 9950x. I updated the video card drivers as well. But that was at least over a week ago and this happened suddenly. I checked for the log of windows updates and the last one was installed also at least a week ago (‎12/‎12/‎2024 24h2).
No problems since until yesterday.

My main monitor is a Benq 3200u.
The other one is an old NEC.

This is the first Gigabyte m/b in the thread which is interesting.  There were a fair amount of problems with those boards last year and a couple threads here about it.  It sort of breaks the idea that it's ASUS boards only though.

Microsoft does indicate that 24H2 causes problems with some things.

I have this issue after updating to 24H2. Weirdly this really only happens on left monitor.
It drives me nuts because everytime I open a quad menu it blocks my reference images on other monitor.

I use 3dsmax 2024 and asus motherboard

I have the same problem. I updated the BIOS, but the problem is not resolved.

Nobody found a solution?

As others have mentioned, it worked fine with this same hardware configuration.

Could the problem come from a graphics card update?

Configuration :

Windows 11
Motherboard : Asus TUF Gaming Z690 Plus WI-Fi
Graphic card : Nvidia Geforce RTX 3090

Hi all,

Just jumping in to note that I have marked @raiden_xavier post to raise it to the top for others who are having this issue, not to discount the issue, but to acknowledge that its in the hands of the dev team, and has been documented to the best of supports abilities.

If there are additional details you think could help the team resolve the issue, please post them here on thread, but support, and the forums might not have a full workaround for those confronted with the issue.

Really appreciate everyone being so diligent in helping to isolate the issue, and its nuances.

Warm regards,

Was the issue reproduced there?

The issue can  easily be reproduced even on Windows 10 with a dual monitor setup:

  • setup the second monitor to be to the LEFT of the primary monitor
  • place the 3ds Max main window on that secondary monitor .
  • open/close some quad menus in Max and watch artefacts appear on the main monitor

Reason for this i assume is that windows reports NEGATIVE pixel coordinates for the left (secondary) monitor, ( spanning eg. from -2560 to -1  in case of a 2560x1440 monitor). So the 3ds Max main window region itself then sits in negative screenspace ( negative X coordinates).
The Quad menu does the same then ( negative horizontal screen coordinates).

Either 3ds Max uses some wrong clearing/redraw flags set on the quad menu, or internally its redraw region calculation only respects positive screen coordinates.
Thats  at least my assumption

There is a potential workaround: swapping the positions of the two screens in the Display settings in Windows, making the second screen "Screen 1" and the first screen "Screen 2."

Let us know if that helps. 🤞

I never even thought to do that.  Good job.  I would never have though to put monitor 2 physically on the left, I suppose because I am a native English speaker and we read left to right.  Interesting.  So hardware has nothing to do with anything, it was just coincidence.  (Right up until we got an ASUS user with the problem.)  Crazy, that.

Thanks for your help. Unfortunately, swapping the screens has not effect. I use tri screen. My main screen is set to 3 and the two secondary screens to 1 and 2.

The problem concerns screen 2. All 3 screens are connected via DisplayPort.

Secondary screen 1 : ASUS VS278
Secondary screen 2 : EIZO ColorEdge CX270
Main screen 3 : EIZO ColorEdge CG2730

I have the same problems since I am on W11, triple monitor setup, primary in the middle. Happens with Max 2024/2025, but those are the only versions I use at the moment.

Mainboard: Gigabyte X670E Aorus Master
CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 7950X
GPU: ASUS ROG STRIX RTX 4090 GAMING OC (for output and rendering) / NVIDIA RTX 4090 Founders Edition (for rendering)

Since this graphical glitch appeared, I have gone through perhaps 10 BIOS versions and several AGESA versions, same is true for the graphics driver and windows builds. This is a simple 3ds Max problem when there is another screen to the left.

I didn't have this problem in recent years with Windows 11 and the same configuration. The appearance of the problem is recent in my case. This problem appeared after I moved my computer and performed a Windows and graphics card update
