Quad menu viewport graphics issues.

Hello!

Quad menu opens where is clicked in viewport, but on the left side of the screen/left monitor I get the viewport part behind the quad menu that was open, and it keeps stacking every time I open quad menu. It is happening on the windows/toolbars that are static.

Tried to downgrade, upgrade, uninstall, reinstall, different drivers, old ones, new ones, windows reinstalls, window updates, different accounts, one monitor, two, three, different graphics modes, run as admin, etc.,  like I have tried everything I could think of in past few days, but still no luck!

Fresh windows 11 install, 3ds max 2023, etc. This is the second time I did a format and new installs and the same thing is happening.

Chatted with support but they could not help, got opened a case but still waiting on that. Hopefully some one here has an idea what to try next?

Sharing a short video.

Thanks!

3dsmax really wants to be on the primary monitor.  Is it possible the left monitor there is the primary one?  (in windows.)

Thanks for the reply. No, the primary one is in the middle as the setup has always been. It is also happening with only one monitor, different cables, different ports, etc. I suspect it has something to do with the combination with windows, graphic card for sure is not a problem, everything was working perfectly before the fresh install.

First time I've seen this one.  I wonder if the cables need to be replugged or something?  Tough one.

Re-plugged, changed cable, new ones, old ones... different monitor input, different graphic card output.

Maybe it's a driver issue?  Sometimes new drivers have issues and there was a big push recently to update NVIDIA drivers because of some kind of security issue.  If everything is the same, it might point to a software/os issue.  For example, there is another issue some folks are having with the new W11 update.  Perhaps is somehow related.

Tried variations of drivers, started with like the 455.00 version, got bored when I came to version 472.somethinng.

Well, you *are* thorough.  Respect.   Does it produce that effect regardless of what is on the left monitor, or only when that specific app is up?

Yup, is doing this regardless of what is on the left monitor. It is also doing on the same monitor. It is like is cloning the main monitor 2/3 to the left, but only the part behind the quad menu. Strange thing is, it is only doing this in 3ds max, other 3d applications like blender does not have this issue.

Also, just tried different PCI slots, same thing happening.

I can't even find another post on the internet about anything like this.  I'm not sure what to suggest.  DPI scaling maybe?  Are the monitors different resolutions?  Apologies, I don't have much to suggest here.

Yes, I have been searching for days but nothing. It is not the DPI, tried to change the resolutions, same thing.

Thanks for trying to help!

Your attitude is good, thank you.  Might as well keep making some guesses.

Are you using your old ENU or is it a fresh one?  Do you have your windows power mode settings set to 'high performance'?  Does the problem happen when using other display drivers in 3dsmax

I don't mind, keep on guessing! 🙂

Fresh ENU, tried all display drivers. Tried updating DirectX also

Sort of surprised about that.  Usually on display issues other display drivers have different results.  High performance power settings might be worth a shot, having that on balanced can create weird display issues in various apps and games.

Have you tried running 3dsmax as administrator?  Maybe it's having a hard time saving some sort of config file.  Are there any other peripherals plugged into the cpu?

Yup, tried the power settings also, tried to overclock everything, underclock turned off and on sleep, and all those windows things that we don't like. Tried to turn off the hardware acceleration for GPU also in windows also but nothing. Tried to run as admin and also to clone the 3dsmax.exe and run that (something I have found that helped someone with kind of similar problem). But nothing.

TR 2990wx, 128GB of RAM, 3070Ti. It is probably the windows update with combination with software issue since everything was working great for me before.

I found and old thread, having similar issues and a sollution: https://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/threads/frozen-viewport-areas-in-old-3ds-max-versions-in-windows-1...

It is a quick fix, but this is fine if happens sometimes...I literally have a part of the clone of the screen behind the quad menu every single right click (or when clicking "V" for switching views)

yes i dont believe that thread is the same issue.

i have the same problem as you, every time i open quad menu in viewport it clones the screen to the left monitor.

does NOT happen if i open drop down menus such as file, edit, tools etc.

Yes, it seems it is happening only with the quad menu.
