I can't reproduce your issue. Could you zip and upload your scene file and image.

Sorry, it's work fine in 3ds max 2016 sp1  on my PC. I can render and save as.

Could you upgrade your 3ds max?

I know it works fine in 2016 and 2014. Trouble is I am using 2015 with Backburner currently and would like it to work as it should. I have narrowed it down. Well it was definitely some setting in the scene somewhere. I started a new scene and merged the geometry and its fine. Strange.
