Hi all,
I just purchased a subscription to MAX but think I messed up the selection process. The project needs MAX 2014 for compatibility but I think the subscription is only the newest version? 2 questions:
1 - Is there a way to change the download to 2014
2 - Is 2014 available as a subscription?
Thanks!

Hi @Anonymous and welcome to Autodesk Community!
I checked your account ans there is one order 10894033034 related to Autodesk 3ds Max 2017 that has been cancelled.
We no longer have 2014 available for purchase, however if you have an active subscription you are entitled to previous versions.
Here are the instructions on how to download a previous version if you have an active subscription.
Thanks for the reply!
I managed to download/install it just fine but now it can't find the license server. My internet is obviously working, so I have no idea why that would be the case. I currently have a subscrpition so it should be activating right?
Hi @Anonymous glad to hear the product was installed.
What us the exact error message you are getting so I can search for the right solution.
It asks me to establish an internet connection to continue. I've attached a screen capture of the error. I cancel out of it and it says the software license check failed. Error 20
Hi @Anonymous,
Please, fully disable your firewall and anti-virus programs and try again. It seems something is blocking your connection.
Thanks and please let me know how it goes 🙂
Just tried that and still nothing. =/
It's worth noting that I'm posting from the same pc that I have MAX installed on, so the internet connection isn't the issue.
Thank you for checking.
Note that accessing a website and installing a program have very different requirements in terms of how your internet and different parts of your computer are used, especially in terms of access.
I would recommend watching this video to ensure your firewall is fully disabled. Your firewall will allow you to access websites, but may block a program installation. Same goes for your anti-virus, please make sure it is completely disabled. If you are installing it in a company computer, you may want to check with your IT department whether there are any other security programs which may be blocking the installation.
Thanks again!
Thanks for the vid link!
I just went through the steps and reran the program and...
...still get the same error. 😞
*sigh*
Well, I downloaded and installed with both the firewall and antivirus turned off and I still get the same error. I'm stumped.
Hello @Anonymous,
Do you use a 3rd party firewall? Sometimes windows firewall also needs exclusions.
I'd like to move this thread to installation and licensing with your permission, I think you'll get a faster answer there. They have dedicated resources for issues just like this.

Hi Alfred,
Sorry for the late reply. I was out of town for the weekend and didn't have access to my workstation. Unfortunately no, it's still doing the exact same thing. I'm seriously considering installing it on my laptop if nothing gets resolved. I need to get this up and running very soon. 😕
I tried downloading the program and installing it from there but it still doesn't work.
Thank you for moving the thread. The more eyes I can get on it the better.
Hello @Anonymous,
Understood. I'm going to get straight to the questions then to save time.
Did you install this as a network license? It should simply require activation but it seems to be looking for a network license server. If this is a network license, did you setup a network license server? If so, this link may help you with network license administration as well as this one. This link and this link have information about network license connectivity problems and configuration. Most licenses are not network licenses however, and perhaps it was accidentally installed this way.
My gut is telling me that perhaps you clicked "Create Deployment" instead of "Install" when you first installed 3ds Max. This created a network deployment meant for network licensing. I think @camilo.lemos might have been correct that the past path here is to uninstall and reinstall with single user license settings. I have more information in these links for you, and here about changing license types. (Short version, reinstall needed.)
Please let me know if this doesn't solve your issue. While it is often some sort of firewall or access problem in many of these cases, I think perhaps this is simply the wrong license type.
Please hit the "Accept as Solution" button if my post fully solves your issue or answers your question. This lets me know that I was effective in helping you, and thank you for doing so.

Hi Alfred.
Thanks for the thorough reply. I fully installed and reinstalled clicking the "install" option and got to the license dialog box. I entered my licence info and still nothing.
I'm going to try this on my laptop in the morning. Hopefully that works. Might be a good thing since I plan on using this license remotely anyway.
I clik the "install" option and get to the attached screen, then enter my licence and still get the same error
Hello @Anonymous,
I see, thanks for sharing the image with me. I've done some more research into this specific problem and I was able to turn up a few interesting links that I think will help you here.
First, there does seem to be a hotfix for users with issues just like this in 2014 and 2015 as well as some helpful info about proxy servers and potential blocks. This may be what is happening to you. You can find more information here as well as a link to the hotfix toward the top of the article. You may also want to run Max and/or the installer as Admin in the case that it's a permissions issue outside of standard firewall and AV blockers.
Please keep me posted and thanks for the images and descriptive posts.
