Explode elements into seperate objects

I have always wondered why this doesn't exsist and only realised now what a limitation it is.

Unless, does anyone know a way in 3ds max to detach all elements in an object into seperate objects? I really don't want to individually seperate 100 elements.

Thanks

Hi @luke.penry

There is a handy free script called "Object Detacher" in the collection of Soulburn scripts here:

The whole collection of scripts is very useful and I use many of them regularly in my work.

However, only supported through Max 2022.

This appears to explode every face into its own object rather than the elements

Thank you, yes I had found this, but like you say as it's been discontinued, its time is limited.

Seriously we need a simple function to be brought into 3ds to do this. As the software is evolving with plugins like Tyflow and vairous other scatter and particle systems, the need to seperate objects is needed more than ever.

Hi,

Just adding my suggestions that I use:

https://www.scriptspot.com/3ds-max/scripts/strtools (The sAttach routine, in the Modifier section)
https://www.scriptspot.com/3ds-max/scripts/detach-by-material-id (For when you want to detach by material ID)

Both work pretty well, depending on the type of seperations you want to perform.

In that case I wouldn't suggest you that solution.

I have read and understood your question, please read my answer, it is not long.

Here is a script that detaches by element or Mat ID and is compatible with Max 2023 and earlier versions:

http://www.scriptspot.com/3ds-max/scripts/detachplus

Has a few other nice features.

This actually works, no script needed. Just make sure your settings match this and you'll get exploded sub-objects, not faces.
