AEC errors again :(

Hi everyone im faced with a error regarding AEC.

When i am trying to make a floorplan with alot of different walls attached together and i begin to place walls to boolean with the aec doors / windows it crashes after a certain amount of door or windows are places this is a common issue in AEC for me atleast...

I posted a video on youtube to show what exsactly happens - i have also run windows logs to check what windows sais and it is described as a Application hang or fault bucket

UPDATE: If i chose not to attach the walls together but have 35 different walls it does not crash although this is not optimal at all 😕 (Would still like a solution if anyone has one)

Smiley Sad

@Alfred.DeFlaminis Maby you know a fix to this issue aswell as the other issue regarding AEC? - in case you want to check out the file then i can send it to your email...

Hello @Chri688m,

I'm glad that is working!  I had the same experience with unlinking and then subdividing.

It seems that the AEC wall subobject components have no Maxscript functions available to them, so you'd have to do it by hand or remember to do it before linking.  That might actually make for a good Feature Request, it would solve many of the current issues with AEC that you're having.

I did log the crash/freeze though.  Since the workaround is simple it may not get a high priority but it's logged.  Thanks for taking the time to post the files, it really helps.

Hello @Chri688m,

It is always best if users post the ideas, if you don't mind.  Thanks!

I checked out the file... yikes.  Can't merge the objects, can't open the file.  Was this a recovery file at any point?  This file seems to have corrupted data in it which killed it I believe.  I see this happen with recovery files sometimes but rarely.  What happened here?

Hi @Alfred.DeFlaminis

One time i was working with an editor, we were importing models into the scene and then all of a sudden it became completely useless, this time though i litterly just saved the file, closed the program - opened it the next day and it was corrupted.

I think this happens quite often at random stages and i don't rely understand why this is happening.. but from what i can hear, for my editors this is something that also happens to them now and then... So i don't know weather this will be easy to fix or not..

Yes @irishman_team_kilber i have tried merging this scene into a new clean 3ds max file but it dosent work, i warped back to an olderversion i had saved seperatly and then i worked a bit in it, it then crashed out of no where and got corrupted... so im at my 4'th try now 😛

Regrettably, there's nothing I can do about this file @Chri688m.   Usually you can merge objects into a new scene when this happens but I am unable to do so here.  I can't really log it since I don't know how to repro it and it may just be an issue with one of the models or possibly materials.  Do you use Compress on Save?

I wonder if Chris used the + on the save as screen this will make a copy instead of using the autoback folder where it over-rights the files in the autoback when you start a new scene, at least he another way of saving.

@Alfred.DeFlaminis maybe it's just one model that is causing the crash? have you tried to merge one model at a time, until you figure out which one is likely to make it crash, then you don't merge that one then @Chri688m maybe will need to remodel it. @Alfred.DeFlaminis not to tell you what to do,

Alright, i just feel like its weird, since i dont know what is causing it and cant really find a fix in any way... i have begon to think its maby the computers being weirdly setup or somthing..

@irishman_team_kilber the entire workflow i use is based around you have a bedroom set, a living room set etc. then you merge them one by one depending on which you need... so im already doing what your suggesting although its not at a certain object it happens i would more say its a completly random moment which has a hugely negative impact...

@Chri688m Did you model them in one scene file or in different scene files? and then merge them into one, have you check the other scene files and max don't crash?

I thought it might be just one model too @irishman_team_kilber, but when I tried to merge in even single objects it crashed.  Something is misbehaving in there.

@Chri688m I don't think it's the computers.  If I had to guess it's corrupted geometry or a bad plugin.  Possibly at some point a recovery file was loaded and work continued on it as normal.  Generally not a good practice to keep working with a recovery file, I suggest taking the changed parts and moving them to the pre-recovery scene.  Sometimes one of the models has a rats nest or some kind of corruption, I see this from bought models sometimes.  If this happens again on another scene please let me know, I may be able to submit them to the tracker if it's happening frequently.

I just went back and double checked my submitted CER logs on crash.  There are only 5 reports of crashing in this bucket throughout history, with 4 of them being mine during testing.  Please submit them if you keep getting crashes, those CER's tell devs what might be misbehaving.  In this case the CER has only two buckets to show, and the crashing one seems to be VCRUNTIME140.  It may be worth trying to update your visual C runtimes, or there may be a plugin in use in the scene that is expected an older version of VCRUNTIME140 but is attempting to load a newer version.  There is an article here which has a link for a reinstaller by MajorGeeks at the bottom, might be worth a try.  However, this scene may just be too corrupted to save.

Which plugins are in use in the scene?  (Other than Corona.)  Thanks for the info.

Hi @Alfred.DeFlaminis

I do not use any other plugins other than corona...

And also i do not get the crash logs..

I will send the file to you if i experience it again..

@irishman_team_kilber the model library looks like this, its basicly just alot of different model sets that can be quickly merged in...

@Alfred.DeFlaminis not to tell you how to use max but if you merge every single object then it's likely to crash but if you merge in one or even two  at a at time and work through the models and then merge them into a new file then you likely to find out the one that is making it crash then you don't merge that one. as you know!

I understand @irishman_team_kilber.  Usually I pick half the scene and merge, if that fails the other half, and then single objects.  That's what I tried.  Even single objects couldn't be merged.

@Chri688m, thank you for doing that.  I'd like to get a better look at the problem with other scenes if possible.

Hi @Alfred.DeFlaminis & @irishman_team_kilber

So i dont quite understand what you mean...?

I import one scene at a time maby delete some models re arrange them etc.

Then i proceed to the next set, and also i have been in every single file to optimize them like renaming, grouping and fix typology..

If you import one file at a time, and then save it as a new scene file example kitchen , if the kitchen does not crash then you need to slowly import the next scene but if that scene crashes, then you need to find out which one of the model is causing it to crash, by slowly merging one at a time

if the scene doesn't crash on that model keep merging all until the scene crashes on that model, then don't merge it into the scene.

you will have to remodel it or just import re-import that model, or the model could be bad, and it doesn't like to be imported

Hello @Chri688m,

On age-old fix for corrupted files is to merge those objects into a new scene.  Sometimes that fails, and it's usually due to one object or a small set of objects which are corrupted and you import parts of the scene in chunks to identify which objects those are.  With your scene though, no objects can be merged which means it's a high level corruption I'm afraid.  That's what we were on about.

Is this happening on lots of scenes or just this one?  Is there a commonality between scenes that get corrupted?  (I'm thinking a model pack or something which using outdated maps or scripts possibly.  Hard to guess.)

Hey @irishman_team_kilber i have done this multiple times ending up with the entire library in one file with no problems...

Fun thing what your saying @Alfred.DeFlaminis i actually have this one scene which i can open no problems what so ever, and then when i change it up a bit and save it the scene becomes like the one i send you - with this specific scene i have tried maby 5 times changing it and saving it, every time i save it and re-open the new 3ds max file the scene will be corrupted... I will try and find this file and see whether that is still happening.

ps. it has happend to a bunch of different scenes..
