AEC errors again :(

Hi everyone im faced with a error regarding AEC.

When i am trying to make a floorplan with alot of different walls attached together and i begin to place walls to boolean with the aec doors / windows it crashes after a certain amount of door or windows are places this is a common issue in AEC for me atleast...

I posted a video on youtube to show what exsactly happens - i have also run windows logs to check what windows sais and it is described as a Application hang or fault bucket

UPDATE: If i chose not to attach the walls together but have 35 different walls it does not crash although this is not optimal at all 😕 (Would still like a solution if anyone has one)

Smiley Sad

@Alfred.DeFlaminis Maby you know a fix to this issue aswell as the other issue regarding AEC? - in case you want to check out the file then i can send it to your email...

It shouldn't crash but these tools predate the 64 bit conversion of Max.  I wouldn't rule out a fix to at least prevent the crash.  Sometimes all it takes to change things is a good attitude and a proper repro scene.  In the meanwhile subdividing the segments works like a charm and I believe this is the intention of that feature in the first place.  Did you find that it worked when you subdivided?

I made a screencast of it working.  I framed the video so it's only the window and the wall that are visible, is it ok if I post it?

I can't understand why that wouldn't work for you.  Could you send me a screencast of what happens when you try?  Thanks!

Thank you @irishman_team_kilber,  here was my experience.  (Win7).  I will test on W10 this week, currently out of office due to sickness.  I did repro the crash originally but adding the segments helped.  Maybe you were altering a different window or door and I could look closer at that one.  Thanks!

Hi guys - sorry for the late reply has been out of office..

Alright, so i don't see why sub-dividing the walls would help this issue at all, although i did find out that you can actually parent the doors and windows into the walls before attaching which lets 3ds run completly fine... Its an annyoing workaround but it kinda works i guess : /

yeah but it's to do with the clone on in max is doesn't matter what I do it still crashes

Maybe max doesn't like me? if i create a completely new scene then max works fine but as soon as my scene gets bigger and i try and copy the doors/windows it crashes.....

Well i mean, i work with both maya and max and i think theres quite a big difference on how the different programs react.

I think maya overall works alot better as i think it way more stable, wheres in max your daily facing annoying problems or crashes... 😛

But maby im just stupid at max 🙂

Hello @Chri688m,

Again, subdividing the segments fixes this.  You can see already the misplaced triangles all over the scene before you move the doors.  Too many walls have bad booleans due to poorly parameterized geo.  I think you guys are underestimating the importance of providing the boolean operation the right geometry.  Still, it shouldn't lock up as it does and I'll log that, but this is working fine once I subdivide the walls.  Also, you don't have to make your walls all 1 piece.

I've reattached the scene with segments subdivided.  You can move the doors easily on this one now.  I just randomly subdivided things all over until the triangles went away, it could be cleaner but I wanted to fix it in 20 seconds or less.  EDIT:  I unlinked all the objects before I subdivided the segments because the geo was too dirty.

max doesn't like you going beyond the scope of the program, if you create walls and you find them widith to big and you move the vertices, you copy the windows/doors bang it crashes, so you will have to delete & and recreate them

God Autodesk should of improve this AEC by now it's deffo stupid.

Hello @Chri688m,

Yes, you need to unlink all the doors and windows first.  I had to as well.  Currently the boolean inputs are stressing it out too much, so the segment won't work until you unlink.  Can you please try that for me?

Hello @irishman_team_kilber,

Do you have a file you can share with the issue you are talking about in your previous post?  I can log it if I can repro.  Thanks!

Alright @Alfred.DeFlaminis, so i un-parented the objects divided and parented the objects into the walls again, and it worked..

This leads me to another question...

Can i set the default divisions in AEC to be a certain amount per. centimeter or meter. // or just set it to always be 10 divisions as default?

In terms that would solve the entire issue about thise divisions.. ie. making AEC alot better! Smiley Surprised
