Changing Bone Sizes

I've got a huge issue regarding a rig I'm doing and I need help.

I've added some new bones to a segment of the model, rigged them to the mesh and animated them in about six different animations. However, since I'm new at working with bones, I didn't realize scaling the bones down would cause the exported model to scale those bones back to their base coordinates, being 100 on the XYZ axes.

I need to figure out a way to scale these bones to a length that can encompass their current volume while still being at 100 on their scale coordinates. Does anyone know how to do this? I don't want to have to reanimate everything I just did.

Hi @EranthisAconite,

This can be fixed using the Bone Tools.

In Max Main menus Animation > Bone Tools

In Object Properties > Reset Scale

This option will reset the Bone Scale to 100% on all Axis.

Select all the Bones of the Rig

press "Reset Scale"

then

press "Reset Stretch"

then

turn Off and On the "[x] Bone On" option to update the display in viewport.

The bones should all be scale to 100%.

The Skin model will be affected by the bone scale changes though.

To fix that one, set the Bones (the whole rig) in the Skin pose.

Then, in the Skin Modifier > Advanced Parameters > [x] Always Deform

Turn Always Deform Off and back On again, this will re-initialize the bone <-> mesh binding.

let me know how it goes,

regards,

You're a life saver, thank you!

Reset bone scale worked to preserve the current sizes. Had to separate the child bones to make sure they didn't scale down while doing so but after rerigging the mesh to those bones, the exported model stayed consistent!

Any other options? The reset scale and stretch don't do anything. I've imported the mesh and bones from Unreal
