Balloons & Parts List

Is there a way to keep the parts list open while ballooning so I can see which items still need to be ballooned?

The short answer is "No".  But, you could take a screen shot of the part list edit with the snapping tool and cross off as you do the ballooning.

Here is an ilogic code that will tell you what needs to be ballooned still

I noticed that the Bill of Materials stays open independently, but not the Parts List...

This will give you the balloon number/Item number and name needed in a pop up box.

Perfect. That works very well and I'll use it regularly.
Thanks, Michael.

On a side note, and without having to run a rule, it would be nice for Autodesk to program for allowing the parts list to stay open, and for each item that gets ballooned, the appropriate box in the parts list would add the balloon icon on that line on the fly...

Glad it will help ... I found it very helpful to just run the ilogic .. it's much faster than open and closing the parts list ...

The only thing they need to add is the parts list says open...

I'm not sure if my post is going to be helpful or relevant, but here's my method of finding out if i've ballooned everything:

I right-click on an existing balloon, select "attach balloon from list" and in the dialog select "items not ballooned".

I normally use the "auto-baloon" function to attach balloons to any missing parts and use the method i described to check if there's anything i missed due to updates or changes.

Niels, that's another good way to find what's not ballooned, but I'd still like to have that list (or the rule from above) keep an open window on my 2nd screen while ballooning. How about it, Autodesk?

Thanks for the tip...I didn't even know that was there...

Hi! This is a very interesting request. I would like to confirm with you that the main reason why you want to see PartsList dialog when ballooning is because there is no feedback from Inventor letting you know if the component has been ballooned. Is it true?

Thanks!

That's why I have the illogic to tell me what instill needing a balloon

If I have a 50 different part assembly and I'm ballooning it.... It would be awesome to know have items still to balloon or what is still needing a balloon. Or an indicator that it's fully ballooned.

be nice if we could see it without having to open and close the Parts list everytime to know if you've ballooned everything.

Johnson, thanks for replying to my issue.

Yes, that's my issue when ballooning. I have a machine with 200+ different parts on it, some duplicates & some unique. After I balloon all of the obvious and easy parts in the views I have on my drawing, there's always a handful at the end that I have to go back and forth with by opening and closing the parts list to see which items have the balloon icon there, and which ones don't.

It's very tedious, and a bit frustrating, when I have to go in and out of the parts list dialogue to see what items remained "unballooned".

Michael's ilogic rule, as well as niels suggestion are both good alternatives, but a floating parts list while you're ballooning would be great, especially if it would add the balloon symbols in the parts list column as you balloon your items.

Done Michael! Thanks for setting up that request over there.

I think this is potentially a great productivity tool that, in my opinion, should be added to Inventor's basic functionality. Can't think of a reason not to do this.

Voted and commented this as well.
Here's a direct link to the idea, the link Michael posted took me to the "most recent" page.
