Creating mattes with vred can be very annoying. Unless you have custom scripts to cycle over each material or object and create a matte for it can be a slow process and even then those mattes can have edge issues and be annoying to wade through them in Photoshop or Nuke.
Cryptomatte and Open exr/id are two things open source at the moment that help make matte creation and post matte usability a lot easier. They have been implemented/adopted by certain renderers on the market and come with plugins to use them in Nuke/Natron/Fusion and can be implemented in other compositors.
Is there any chance you would be open to support one of these in VRED? For our Vred animations where we comp in Nuke this would be a real time saver.
If you were to support it we would also look into creating a Photoshop plugin ourselves that we could use for our stills work and which we would be open to making open source to the community to use.
