Translation on X with a Y Orientation

Hi,

I am trying to translate an object on X. And I gave -23 to its y-orientation but it does not move the way it should.

I am also attaching a link for the video and you can see there y-orientation and the object should move in a tilted way not in a straight line. Or maybe I am missing something.

Best Regards

Harris

Hi, if i have understood you moved the box using the X manipulator and you would like to see it moving along the "Rotation" manipulator you set active?

This is not possible.

The Rotation manipulator act only for Rotation around Axes, not for Translation

if you want to "rotate" the translation you have to put your box inside another Node and rotate this (and obviously rotate the box of the same value in the opposite direction)

Then, Moving the Box, it will follow the Parent Node orientation.

Hi,

Thanks for you reply ... still the box does not work the way I want. So, I just found a formula to do that with the script and it is working not perfectly but fine.

Hi Chris,

Please have a look at my attached link and sorry for the dots and planes in the video as my graphics card get roasted.

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1SCHqDRaHr7zjqlMKIAfgSapIRdjtzmLf/view?usp=sharing

In the link, I showed you what a want to achieve in Vred but I think it is not possible in Vred. But if you know how to do this then please let me know.

The solution I adopted is, I used a formula to move the object in x and z both at a same time. And I cannot share the code here because I work for a company. Hope you understand.

Hi, you can do what you show in the video by activating the "Local Mode" in the Transform button.

Hi,

But when you try to move it by entering values in x. It doesn't move the way I want. You can give it a try and I also tried it moving with local translation code but still move in a straight line.

Ok, lets try adding the 2 advice...

  1. Create a group, add the box inside it. rotate the group, and not the box (so you see the box rotated)
  2. Using the x coordinate (while the box is selected) results in a translation along the x axis of the box, so physically along the rotated group axis.

Activate the local mode you will see the rotated manipulator. This is useful only if you want to graphically manipulate the box.

Is this combination right for your needs?

Hi,

I tried your method you answered before but it didn't work. I will also try to make a video on that and share the video with you.

But I will not be able to do so before Monday. As, I am not in the Office.

Hi,

That's great. I was moving the group and it was not working the way I wanted. Now I know, that I have to move box in the group.

Thanks for making a video.

Greetings

Haris
