Using a Database in conjunction with AutoCad

I have seen your replies to other people coding questions and i feel like you have an answer.

i am a mechanical engineer that is learning code as i go ( may not be the best way but it is what i have to do).

My Goal:

1. build a database using access/sql/oracle etc.

2. attach my autocad files to this database 

3. extract if possible part information from drawing 

Optional Goal:

1. open drawings that you query 

2. search for a part number and bring up the assembly drawing or and related drawings that have that part within it.

A database connection is certainly possible with AutoCAD. YOu might start with some of the articles here.
