Pan and Zoom options

Good day all.

I am unsure of where to put this request, so if I placed it in the wrong area, please direct it to the correct one.

I have a client who would like to change the CUI to force the mouse scroll wheel to only pan and if the SHIFT key is held + the scroll wheel then AutoCAD will zoom in and out.  Acting much like the PDF pan/zoom.

Is this possible in AutoCAD?

That's not possible for as far as I know.

But I'm confused; why would your client want that?

In PDF or any text editor I can see why you would want the mouse wheel to scroll by default or in combination with SHIFT to zoom, since you are in a document/form with one or more pages.

But in AutoCAD (or many other CAD programs as well) there is no need to 'scroll' but only to pan which is already supported by using and pressing the mouse wheel as a button. So using the mouse wheel to zoom by default makes sense to me as pressing SHIFT would mean an unnecessary additional user action. But if your client has the absolute need to press the SHIFT while using the mouse wheel, he can do so as well as that doesn't make any difference for zooming in AutoCAD but for me I don't see the point.

You can however change the mouse wheel button function in the CUI in conjunction with the MBUTTONPAN variable to turn off the default mouse button  behavior. For more information on MBUTTONPAN >>> Click here <<<

The reason why is simple; this client isn't an experienced AutoCAD user.  He wants AutoCAD to 'act' like Adobe/Visio/etc...programs of which he is more familiar.

Turns out that in this particular case the solution was to adjust the ZOOMFACTOR to its minimum possible value: 3; this made the client happy.

Sometimes, I can really only shrug my shoulders at these people.
