Hello, I have a little problem and I'd very much appreciate your help.

Using a tool we have at work I created some texts and blocks in my drawing, the problem is that these blocks and texts have their color "set by layer" but the layer that they were created belongs to an Xref.

When I publish my drawing to clients I don't want to send that Xref also, and the object then turn white and in layer 0.
Because there are so many, changing them layer by layer manually is too much work.

Is there a way to make objects adopt their current layer color as the color value? or maybe you have another solution?

Hi,

There are many ways to treat with those blocks and texts:

>> but the layer that they were created belongs to an Xref.

You can try to change the new created layer name by editing the tool itself (if it's available).

>> I don't want to send that Xref also, and the object then turn white and in layer 0.

  • You can select them by LAYISO command then change the layer for them easily.
  • You can select them by Select Similar command.
  • You can try also FILTER command.

By all previous ways you can easily finish your mission ..

Hey, Thank you for helping!
Those options sounds great the only problem is that I'll have to do it repeatedly for about 100 layers.
If only there was an option to make selected object have the value of the color of the layers they belong to instead of the "by layer option". too bad I don't know how to write lisps 😅

"When I publish my drawing to clients..."

How do you "publish" the drawing?

Those are the same thing, that is, "hav[ing] the value of the color of the layers they belong to" is exactly what "ByLayer" means.  Or do you mean you want to force override colors on them, matching their Layers' colors?  I think we need a more detailed explanation of what you're doing, and maybe a small sample of a drawing and the drawing Xref'd into it.
