Next Available Point Number-Script?

This is one of those "I wonder if it's possible" day dreams....  not sure if this is the right place to ask.

We have trouble getting our field crews to know/use the next available point number for the topo work they do over multiple trips to a site. I know, I know... take good notes, good communication etc.  It's a struggle no matter how hard we work on those.

What would be awesome is if there was a way they could send a txt or email to a certain phone or email address with the file number and get returned the results of the "listavailablepointnumbers" command in C3D.  (our DWG names correspond to our file numbers)

I'm fairly capable with LISP & VBscript but can't think of a way to pull this off.

Any thoughts?

I believe the data collector should take care of that automatically.  Perhaps the crew(s) should read the **** manual.

But perhaps someone in the office is adding points after each day's download and importation.  That would leave the collector file out of synch with the dwg.  If someone in the office has a habit of doing that, then I suggest you make them use a different point number range.
